Afghanistan and Sri Lanka become the two teams from Group B to advance through to the Super 4 of Asia Cup 2022. They will now face each other in this Super 4 fixture at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 3rd.

Afghanistan stunned both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Group B to reach Super 4. They hammered the Lankan lions in the opening game by eight wickets. Bowling first, Fazalhaq Farooqi starred with 3 for 11 to skittle the opponents for just 105. Rahmanullah Gurbaz then smashed 40 off 18 whereas Hazratullah Zazai scored 37* off 28 to complete the chase in 10.1 overs.

Afghanistan then defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets at Sharjah. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was superb with the ball, snaring 3 for 16 while Rashid Khan also picked 3 for 22 as they restricted the Bangla tigers to 127/7. Chasing the target, Ibrahim Zadran provided stability with his 42* off 41 whereas Najibullah Zadran blew Bangladesh away with a sensational 43* off 17 to win the game by nine balls to spare.

After losing the first game, Sri Lanka needed to win the straight shootout against Bangladesh to reach the Super 4. In a high voltage thriller, Sri Lanka managed to win by two wickets on Thursday. Dilshan Madushanka impressed with 1 for 26 in four overs while Maheesh Theekshana returned 1/23 in his quota. But the rest of the attack was taken apart by Bangladesh as they reached 183/7.

Sri Lanka got a good start while chasing with 45 on the board in five overs. Kusal Mendis rode his luck for a 37-ball 60 while Dasun Shanaka blasted 45 off 33 to take them closer. Needing 11 off 7 balls with only two wickets in hand, Asitha Fernando and Maheesh Theekshana got them over the line with some help from indisciplined bowling by Bangladesh.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz: Wicketkeeper Batter, Afghanistan

Rahmanullah Gurbaz started the Asia Cup with a 40 off 18 against Sri Lanka. Earlier, he had scored 53 off 35 in the third match against Ireland. Gurbaz has done pretty well in T20 cricket, with over 2100 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 153. He has one hundred and 13 fifties in the format.

Dasun Shanaka: Batter, Sri Lanka

Dasun Shanaka has done extremely well down the order in recent times. He has smashed 353 runs in T20I cricket this year from 13 matches at an average of 39 while striking at 143. Earlier this year, he hit 47* off 19 and 74* off 38 against India. Later he won a game against Australia with 54* off 28 and is coming off 33-ball 45 in the last game.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman: Bowler, Afghanistan

Mujeeb Ur Rahman has a terrific record in T20I cricket, having claimed 43 scalps in 30 matches at an economy of 6.13 and strike rate of  15.3, including two four-fors. He snared 2 for 24 in the first group match against Sri Lanka and followed it up with 3 for 16 against Bangladesh.

Najibullah Zadran: Batter, Afghanistan

Najibullah Zadran has been in magnificent form, blasting 42 off 17, 50 off 24 and 43* off 17 in three of the last five T20Is. He has a fantastic record for Afghanistan, having scored 1532 runs in 70 innings at an average of 34 and strike rate of 143, including eight fifties.
