Though ATK Mohun Bagan FC (previously known as Atletico de Kolkata and ATK World) and Bengaluru FC share a rivalry not older than three-four years, the two Indian Super League (ISL) football clubs have had some memorable encounters and continue to be one of the prime title contenders for years now.
When Bengaluru FC made an entry into the ISL 2017-18 season, ATK were going through a transition phase and the Blues dominated proceedings for quite some time before the Kolkata giants have made a strong comeback in recent years.

The return of manager Antonio Habas Lopez has seen the lop-sided head-to-head improve in the last two seasons. After having lost four matches against Bengaluru FC on the trot, ATKMB defeated BFC 3-1 in March 2020 and has since lost just once in seven matches.

ATKMB’s bigger financial muscle have also led to the Kolkata side roping in numerous stars in recent years, like Roy Krishna, David Williams, Hugo Boumous, Carl McHugh, Manvir Singh, Amrinder Singh and more, the impact of which was seen in the AFC Cup Group stage match earlier this year. While mercurial striker Roy Krishna has been ATKMB’s top goalscorer and a consistent contender for the ISL Golden Boot season after season, it has been his former A-League partner David Williams who has scored more against Bengaluru FC. The former Australian striker has scored four goals against the Blues and provided three assists as well. Two of his four goals came in the crucial ISL 2019-20 playoffs that ATK eventually won. He also has one assist each in two competitions – ISL, ISL playoffs and AFC Cup.
