ATKMB vs JFC, ISL 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions, & Fantasy Team

ATK Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur FC will lock horns on Monday, 7th March at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda in the last league stage encounter of the season, it would be appropriate that they do so to gain some more momentum in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

Any result for Jamshedpur FC versus ATKMB would ensure that JFC will win the League Shield, as they are safely the top team to go through to the last four. This will be a game for them where they can rest some of the fatigued players and can also try out some young talents if they wish to do so.

On the other hand, ATKMB must defeat JFC to secure a second-spot finish. ATKMB is in the third position with 37 points after 19 games, while Jamshedpur has 40 points after 19 games.

When Jamshedpur and ATKMB square up against one other, they aren’t just competing for prizes. Both teams are on the brink of shattering Hero ISL records in their next matchup against each other. If Jamshedpur wins, they would become the first side in the history of the Hero Indian Super League to win seven consecutive games. After their most recent victory, Jamshedpur FC tied Bengaluru FC for the most consecutive victories in the league’s history with six victories in a row. A victory for Jamshedpur would see them smash the previous record and set a new one for themselves.

Jamshedpur is also on the brink of setting a new record in another category. Jamshedpur has amassed 40 points in the Hero ISL 21-22 season, which is the joint-highest total achieved by a club following the league stages of the Hero ISL (BFC in 2017-18, ATKMB and MCFC in 2020-21). A victory or a draw would see the team set a new record for points in a season. Jamshedpur FC defeated Odisha FC 5-1 on Saturday, ensuring that they would finish in the top two of the table. Nigerian attacker Daniel Chima Chukwu scored twice in the victory.

Chima has scored nine goals in the Hero Indian Super League this season, seven of which have come for Jamshedpur. There has been no player in the league who has scored more goals than Chima since his debut for JFC. The combo, which includes Greg Stewart, has proven to be formidable.

ATKMB has also been on a roll under Juan Ferrando, and the fact that Roy Krishna was able to reach the back of the net in the most recent encounter is only good news for the Mariners. Joni Kauko has also been in fantastic form, while Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh have both been steady throughout the season as well. The previous time these two teams clashed, Jamshedpur came out on top 2-1 over ATKMB.

Since joining forces with Mohun Bagan and deciding to operate as a united entity last season, ATK Mohun Bagan has met Jamshedpur FC just three times. Even though just three games have been played, there has been an intense competition between two teams that are not willing to give each other an advantage. Jamshedpur FC has won two of the three matches, while the Mariners have only managed a single win in the three games.

As a result of their 2-1 victory in the first leg of this match in the current season, the Men of Steel has an edge. Goals from Seiminlen Doungel and Alex Lima secured victory for Owen Coyle’s side, while Pritam Kotal netted a consolation goal for the Green and Maroons. However, if the results of the first and second legs are similar, Jamshedpur FC would become the first team in Indian football history to do so.

ATK Mohun Bagan enters this match on the heels of a narrow 1-0 victory against Chennaiyin earlier in the week. That victory means they will go into the last match of the regular season with realistic aspirations of winning the championship, but those possibilities are exceedingly remote. Jamshedpur is the team that they are following after. However, they would need to win by a margin of four or more goals to leapfrog Owen Coyle’s Jamshedpur at the top of the standings. Given their potential proclivity to attack in this manner, both the teams scoring seems to be a very reasonable bet for this game.

Both teams have scored in two of the three previous meetings, and in the event that the game does not turn out to be the cagey affair that we anticipate, it may be worthwhile to support both teams to hit the back of the goal. This is a matchup between two of the most prolific goal scorers in the league, and both sides should be able to generate a significant number of scoring opportunities.

Score Prediction- ATKMB 1-1 JFC
