AUS-W vs ENG-W 2nd ODI Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Australia women vs England women, 2nd ODI (AUS-W vs ENG-W)

Date: February 6, Sunday, 04:35 AM IST

Venue: The Junction Oval, Melbourne

The second game of the three-match ODI series of the Ashes between Australia Women and England Women will be played at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on February 6. England women missed a chance to win the Ashes for the first time since 2013-14 after losing the opening ODI by 27 runs. To stand a chance to win the historic series, they needed to win all three ODI matches.

In the opening ODI at the Manuka Oval, the Meg Lanning-led side set the visitors a target of 206. After a top-turvy start by their top-order batters, a knock of 73 by Beth Mooney took Australia women to a total in excess of 200, which didn’t seem enough. But Darcie Brown’s four wickets helped bundle out England women for 178 in 45 overs. The only significant contribution came from captain Natalie Sciver, who top-scored with 45 runs.

The ODI series will also help both the teams assess their strengths and weaknesses ahead of next month’s Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand. Interestingly, Australia women and England women have each other as opponents in their opening fixture of the event.

Australia women have won 27 of their last 28 ODIs, with the one-off loss coming at the hands of India women. They will look to continue the winning spree in the second ODI on February 6.

Weather update and pitch report for AUS-W vs ENG-W

The ball comes nicely onto the bat at the Junction Oval and the batters are likely to have more advantage here than the bowlers. The opening ODI at the Manuka Oval was a relatively low-scoring game, but much more strokeplay and runs can be expected at the Junction Oval.

As for the weather update, the temperature is likely to range from 12 to 23 degree Celsius and the sky is expected to be clear during the game. An uninterrupted 100-over game is likely on the cards.

Australia women team news and predicted XI

Team news: Australia women now have an unassailable 8-4 lead in the multi-format series. Megan Schutt, who was left out of the one-off Test to manage her workload after Covid-19, picked two wickets on her return in the opening ODI.

Predicted XI: Alyssa Healy (wk), Beth Mooney, Rachael Haynes, Meg Lanning (c), Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonassen, Megan Schutt, Alana King

England women team news and predicted XI

Team news: The second-best option for the England women after losing the series is to draw it, which will be possible if they win both the remaining ODIs. Danni Wyatt, who wasn’t included in the Test team, returned for the first ODI in which she managed to score 20 runs.

Predicted XI: Tammy Beaumont, Danielle Wyatt, Heather Knight (c), Natalie Sciver, Mady Villiers, Amy Ellen Jones (wk), Sophia Dunkley, Katherine Brunt, Kate Cross, Anya Shrubsole, Sophie Ecclestone

Head to head record

Australia women and England women have played 79 ODIs with Australia winning 53 and England winning 22. When they last played an ODI series in the 2019 Ashes, England lost 3-0 and will be hoping to not repeat the same this time around.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for AUS-W vs ENG-W, 2nd ODI

Ellyse Perry – All-rounder, Australia women

MPL price – 10 credits

One of the best all-rounders in women’s cricket, Ellyse Perry was a disappointment in the opening ODI. She was dismissed for a golden duck, and failed to make amends for it with her bowling, having gone wicketless in five overs.  However, Perry still remains crucial to your MPL fantasy team for the experience she brings to the table. She has played 119 ODIs, from which she has an impressive average of more than 50 and has also taken 152 wickets. She was also impressive in the recent one-off Test in which she picked up four wickets.

Beth Mooney – Batter, Australia women

MPL price – 9.5 credits

Beth Mooney was the standout batter for Australia women in the opening ODI. The England bowlers got off to a good start, dismissing Australia’s top-order in quick succession. But Mooney rescued the team with a knock of 77 that was laced with eight boundaries and a maximum. The knock helped the side post 205 in 50 overs. The southpaw has played 45 ODI games till date, averaging a healthy 44.37. Mooney is a good option for your fantasy game’s vice-captaincy.

Nat Sciver – All-rounder, England women

MPL price – 9.5 credits

The England all-rounder was her side’s best batter in the opening ODI, scoring 45 off 66. But without much support from the rest of the batters, England women fell short of the target by 27 runs. With the ball, however, Sciver failed to pick up any wickets. In all, she has a batting average of almost 39 along with 54 wickets in her 78-match ODI career.

Tahlia McGrath – All-rounder, Australia women

MPL price – 9 credits

Tahlia McGrath has been impressive throughout this Ashes series. She scored an unbeaten 91 in the only T20I and also picked up three wickets for 26 runs. She followed this up with a half-century in the one-off Test and two wickets. In the following opening ODI, she chipped in 29 runs with the bat and picked up two wickets with the ball. Although the all-rounder has played only 9 ODIs for Australia’s women’s cricket team, she is already one of the most sought-after players across fantasy leagues.

Darcie Brown – Bowler, Australia women

MPL price – 8.5 credits

Darcie Brown picked up four wickets in the opening ODI, which helped Australia women defend a below-par total of 205. Brown has made a good start to her ODI career, having nine wickets in the first four games. The fast bowler was also impressive in the Women’s Big Bash League last year.
