Liverpool will try to brush up their disappointing display when they travel to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Villa had endured a poor form as they had been on a five match winless run until the last two matches as back to back wins have now steadied their ship.
The appointment of Steven Gerrard brought in a sense of expectations from the supporters as they were hoping to rub their shoulders with the other top candidates.
But they are currently 11th in the Premier League table and would be aiming for a position in the top half of the table. Villa inflicted a defeat on Norwich City which confirmed their Championship status for the next season while their comfortable win over Burnley in the last match has damaged the Clarets’ survival hopes.
Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Buendia were on the score sheet in the last match and they will certainly fancy their chances against the Reds.
Gerrard will return to Anfield and is expected to receive a cordial welcome at his old stomping ground but on the pitch, it will be a totally different ballgame.
The former Liverpool midfielder will try to get a positive result which could crank up Liverpool’s title charge.
Liverpool suffered a jolt as they played a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the last match. Son Heung-min gave the North Londoners a deserving lead but Luis Diaz reduced the deficit for the home side.
With Manchester City winning handsomely against Newcastle United. Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently three points adrift of the league leaders and cannot drop more points which could hand an advantage to their title rivals.
A quadruple is still hanging on the horizon but Liverpool will take one game at a time. Villa’s poor home run coincides with Liverpool’s relentless away run and the form of Luis Diaz will be a matter of concern for Villa.
However, the title war will likely go down the wire and the Reds will keep fighting for their second Premier League title in three seasons.
