FC Barcelona will kick off their UEFA Champions League 2022/23 campaign against Czech outfit FC Viktoria Plzen at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain in the early hours of Thursday in India. The UCL 2022/23 Group C match will start at 12:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).

Under manager Xavi, Barcelona have been in impressive form recently, registering three victories and one draw in their four matches in the ongoing edition of La Liga so far. With 10 points from four games, the Catalan giants are currently placed second in the La Liga 2022/23 standings, two points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona will head into their UEFA Champions League 2022/23 opener brimming with confidence, having defeated Sevilla 3-0 away from home at the Ramón Sanchez Pizjuan in their previous game in the top-tier Spanish league on Sunday.

New summer signings Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski scored in the first half of the match while former Manchester City defender Eric Garcia netted one more in the 50th minute to help Barcelona secure a commanding victory over Sevilla ahead of their UCL fixture.

On the other hand, Viktoria Plzen pipped Liberec 1-0 in their Czech First League clash on Saturday.

Midfielder Jan Sykora scored the solitary goal of the match in the 41st minute to power his side to another win in the Czech league.

Having secured five wins and one draw, Viktoria Plzen are currently placed second in the Czech First League 2022/23 standings with 16 points from six matches, equal on points with league leaders Slavia Praha, who have played one game more.

Viktoria Plzen secured their place in the second qualifying round of the UCL 2022/23 courtesy clinching the Czech First League title.

Led by manager Michal Bilek, the reigning Czech First League champions have already beaten HJK, Sheriff Tiraspol and Qarabag to book their place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2022/23.

Interestingly, Viktoria Plzen last played in the group stage of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season.

Barcelona vs Viktoria Plzen head-to-head in UEFA Champions League

FC Barcelona have won both their matches against Viktoria Plzen in UEFA Champions League history. While Barcelona secured a 2-0 win in their Group H clash at Camp Nou in 2011/12 season, the Blaugrana thrashed the Czech club 4-0 away from home in the reverse fixture.

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona have no injury or suspension concerns ahead of their Group C clash against Viktoria Plzen.

However, Xavi is expected to make few changes in order to keep his players fresh.

Centre-backs Eric Garcia, Ronaldo Araujo and left-back Alejandro Balde could be rested at the heart of the defence. Former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto could be drafted into the playing XI.

Furthermore, star midfielder Frenkie de Jong could replace Gavi in the starting XI.

Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are expected to make their Champions League debut in Blaugrana colours.

Spain forward Ferran Torres could also be given an opportunity in place of French winger Ousmane Dembele.

Viktoria Plzen Team News:

Viktoria Plzen will miss the services of their star striker Petr Pejsa, who has been ruled out due to a serious knee injury.

Meanwhile, Tomas Chory could replace Fortune Bassey in the playing XI against a star-studded Barcelona outfit.

FC Barcelona possible starting lineup:

Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Jordi Alba, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto; Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Pedri; Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres

Viktoria Plzen possible starting lineup:

Jindrich Stanek; Vaclav Jemelka, Ludek Pernica, Lukas Hejda, Libor Holik; Lukas Kalvach, Pavel Bucha; Jan Sykora, Jan Kopic, Jhon Mosquera; Tomas Chory

Having made several changes to their squad this season, FC Barcelona have clearly shown their intent on and off the field. Barcelona have registered 4-1, 4-0 and 3-0 victories in their last three matches and the Catalans will start as overwhelming favourites to secure another victory against Viktoria Plzen at Camp Nou.

Considering the form and team combination, Barcelona are expected to start their UCL 2022/23 campaign with a big win.
