Stars vs Scorchers:

The match no. 31 of the Big Bash League 2021-22 will witness Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars going head to head at Junction Oval on Sunday. After the last fixture between these two getting postponed due to Covid-19 cases, there’s some uncertainty around this fixture.

The Ashton Turner-led Scorchers are sitting at the second position in the points table with 21 points and a net run-rate of +1.18. They have won six out of their seven games while claiming a Bash Boost point in three of those. The Scorchers saw their six-match winning streak break in their last completed fixture, where Sydney Thunder defeated them by 34 runs.

Melbourne Stars are in a bit of a pickle, currently placed in the bottom three. Glenn Maxwell’s men have played six matches, winning three and losing as many. They have 10 points to their credit and a net run-rate of -1.114 further puts a dent in their campaign. The Stars are coming into this game on the back of a 20-run victory over Brisbane Heat after posting 207/9 with the help of Joe Clarke’ 85 and Hilton Cartwright’s 79.

Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for MS vs PS

The Junction Oval in Melbourne has not hosted any matches here in men’s cricket. From what we’ve seen in women’s cricket, the pitches here have been batting-friendly. The highest total recorded at this venue was 177/3 by India Women when they chased down the target in February 2020.

The weather forecast for the match looks clear enough with a very low chance of precipitation and the temperature hovering around 26°.

Melbourne Stars: Expected XI and Team News

Melbourne Stars have been hit with a Covid-19 outbreak within their camp with seven players testing positive. The identities are yet unknown. Andre Russell’s exit weakens their batting but the Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf’s return will bolster the bowling attack.

Probable XI – Joe Clarke (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Joe Burns, Glenn Maxwell (c), Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Brody Couch, Haris Rauf, Adam Zampa, Qais Ahmad

Perth Scorchers: Expected XI and Team News

Match 31: Five players to watch out for in the MS vs PS match

Here we take a look at five key players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI:

Glenn Maxwell: All-rounder, Melbourne Stars

Glenn Maxwell is amongst the most destructive T20 batters in world cricket. He has been consistently good in the BBL, where he has 2390 runs at an average of 32 while striking at nearly 150. Maxwell brought up his first century in the league earlier when he smashed 103 against Sydney Sixers. He comes at 10 credits and can be a C/VC option.

Joe Clarke: Batter, Melbourne Stars

Joe Clarke is one of the most promising players in the world and has played in various leagues around the globe. The Englishman has scored 2256 runs in T20 cricket at an average of 29 while striking at an excellent 155. Clarke struggled in the BBL 11 for the first few games but has scored 52 off 40 and 85 off 44 in the last two games. Clarke costs 9 credits and can be a solid C/VC candidate.

Andrew Tye: Bowler, Perth Scorchers

Adam Zampa: Bowler, Melbourne Stars

Australia’s number 1 spinner in limited overs cricket, Adam Zampa has been terrific for Melbourne Stars as well. He has 225 wickets to his name in T20 cricket at an economy of 7.32. After picking 20 and 19 wickets in the last two seasons, Zampa has picked three scalps from five games this season but remains a key player. He will cost 8.5 credits in the MPL XI.
