BH vs AS, BBL 2021-22 Fantasy Preview, Predictions and MPL Top Picks

Match: Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers, Big Bash League 2021 (BH vs AS)

Date: January 12, Wednesday, 1:45 PM IST

Venue: The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia

Brisbane Heat will take on the Adelaide Strikers in match number 46 of the Big Bash League 2021-22 at The Gabba on Wednesday, January 12. Both the teams are currently on the wrong side of the points table and each match from here on will be crucial to their chances for the knockout stage. For the eighth-placed Strikers, however, the chances to make it to the top four are all but over. They have won just one of their last eight games.

The Heat, on the other hand, are currently placed fifth on the points table after winning three of their 10 matches and losing seven. They have just one victory in their last five outings, which means that their chances to make it to the knockouts are also very dim. To make matters worse, the team is one of the worst affected by the rising Covid19 cases in Australia. 12 players and coach Wade Seccombe tested positive for the virus and were forced into seven days of isolation. Apart from Chris Lynn, Sam Heazlett and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, almost all other faces in the squad are relatively new and inexperienced, but nine of the 12 isolated players have been cleared to play the next game.

Ahead of match number 46, let’s look at their head to head total of both the teams, the pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for BH vs AS

The surface at the Gabba has been a decent one for batting in the BBL, but the fast bowlers also enjoy quite a lot of assistance here. Of the 48 BBL matches played here, 26 have been won by the team batting second. The toss-winning captain is likely to bowl first. The average first innings score at the Gabba in the BBL is 164 and the highest and lowest totals are 209 and 109.

As for the weather update, the temperature is likely to range from 18 to 20 degree Celsius. However, it is going to be partly cloudy and we could be in for some passing showers.

Brisbane Heat team news and predicted XI

Team news: The Heat come into this game on the back of a loss to the Hobart Hurricanes. Lachlan Pfeffer, playing his second BBL match, top-scored for the Heat with 69 runs, while Will Prestwidge, another BBL newcomer, picked up two wickets.

Predicted XI: Chris Lynn, Ben Duckett (wk), Sam Heazlett, Lachlan Pfeffer, Jake Lehmann, Tom Cooper (c), Will Prestwidge, Xavier Bartlett, Mark Steketee, Mujeeb ur Rahman, David Grant.

Adelaide Strikers team news and predicted XI

Team news: The Strikers will be playing their next few games to salvage pride because their chances to make it to the playoffs are close to none. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Melbourne Stars after being unable to defend 140. Matt Renshaw is not available for the next game as he has tested Covid positive.

Predicted XI: Matthew Short, Jake Weatherald, Jonathan Wells, Henry Hunt, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielson (wk), Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle (c), Harry Conway, Ryan Gibson, Fawad Ahmed

Head to head record

Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers have played 15 BBL matches between them, of which the Heat have won 7 and the Strikers 8.

BH vs AS: Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers

Ben Duckett – Wicketkeeper batter, Brisbane Heat

Ben Duckett missed out a couple of games after testing positive for Covid19 but is among the nine players who have completed the one-week isolation period and are ready to return for the next game. The wicketkeeper batter has played some fine knocks in the on-going edition of the BBL, which includes two half centuries. His top knock of 78 came against the Strikers and Duckett will be looking to produce a similar knock against the same opponents in the next game. In all, Duckett has notched up 218 runs in eight matches this season at an average of 27.25 and a strike rate of 138.85.

Mark Steketee – Bowler, Brisbane Heat

Right-arm pacer Mark Steketee is also returning for the next game after testing negative for Covid19. He has been among the standout bowlers this BBL season with 10 wickets in five games at an average of 15.40, which includes best figures of 3 for 27.

Matthew Short – All-rounder, Adelaide Strikers

The all-rounder has played some great knocks this season, but they have come in a losing cause. Short has notched up 265 runs in 10 matches at an average of 29.44, which includes an unbeaten 72 against the Hurricanes last week. With the ball, however, the offbreak bowler has been able to pick only two wickets so far.

Peter Siddle – Bowler, Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers skipper is the third highest wicket-taker in the BBL this season. Siddle has 6 wickets from10 matches, with the best figures of 5/23. Rashid Khan is another good pick from among the Strikers’ bowlers. Although the spin sensation has not been at his best this season, his experience still makes him a good pick for your MPL team.

Chris Lynn – Batter, Brisbane Heat

The destructive opener is also returning for the Heat in the next game after being in isolation for a week. Apart from a solitary half-century, the T20 globetrotter has not performed to his lofty standards. But with the vast experience he brings to the table, Lynn is still indispensable to your MPL fantasy team.
