Match: Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades (BH vs MR)
Date: January 14, 2021
Venue: Manuka Oval – Canberra, Australia
Every game that Brisbane Heat play in the current season of the Big Bash League is now a do or die for the side. They will fancy their chances, but their batting has been a cause of worry of late, with no player other than Chris Lynn in consistent form. They have a strong bowling attack, however, with players such as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mark Steketee, jack Wildermuth and Xavier Barlett. However, they lack experience but will be fancying their chances against an out of form Melbourne Renegades.
The Renegades are already ousted from the tournament after what has been a below par showing from them thus far. They did get over the line against Adelaide Strikers in their previous game, but they will face a stiff challenge against the Heat. Despite having a strong and dangerous batting side, led by openers Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch, the Renegades have been unable to get going. Their bowling has been impressive though, but the batters have not given them much to bowl with, which could pose a problem yet again.
The day is expected to be warm, hot and humid with lots of sunshine.
Pitch Report of BH vs MR:
The track here will have plenty of runs on offer, but will slow down considerably as the match progresses. A target of 170 will be competitive.
The team that wins the toss will want to bat first as the wicket will slow down as the match progresses.
BH Expected XI and Team News
The Brisbane Heat have announced that Morne Morkel will be available for the upcoming game against the Renegades. His inclusion will bolster the strong bowling attack. The team will also be without the services of Mujeeb Ur Rahman henceforth, as he has returned for international duty.
Chris Lynn: The skipper will enter the game on the back of a fine fifty. He has been consistent for the team and will hope to play another crucial knock.
Jack Wildermuth: The bowler picked up 2 wickets in the last game against Sydney Sixers, and could pose problems yet again.
Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Joe Denly, Joe Burns, Lewis Gregory, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Jack Wildermuth, Mark Steketee, Morne Morkel, Xavier Bartlett.
MR Expected XI and Team News
The Melbourne Renegades have not yet announced their squad for the upcoming game. They will, however, be without Mohammad Nabi, who has reported for international duty.
Aaron Finch: The Aussie skipper has had a dismal run thus far, but he is a danger player who can always run away with the game on his day. He should be backed to score a big knock.
Kane Richardson: The pacer has been the top bowler for the unit in this edition. He will want to lead the charge with the new ball yet again.
Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Mackenzie Harvey, Sam Harper, Jake Frazer-McGurk, Beau Webster, Imad Wasim, Jack Prestwidge, Peter Hatzoglou, Kane Richardson, Noor Ahmad.
Head to head record of BH vs MR:
The two teams have played each other 13 times in the history of the Big Bash League, with the advantage tilted in favour of the Renegades. They have registered 10 wins thus far, while the Heat have just 3 wins against them.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for BH vs MR:
WK: James Peirson has blown hot and cold this season, but he is worth backing, considering his T20 numbers. He has scored over 1000 runs in his T20 career thus far, with the help of four fifties, including one in this season’s BBL.
Batsmen: Chris Lynn is the leading run scorer of the Brisbane Heat, despite missing a few matches due to injury. He has been in good form of late, and has scored 223 runs thus far at a strike rate of over 150. Max Bryant is the only other Heat batsman with more than 200 runs this season. He has 220 runs but is yet to get a fifty, and will be eyeing a big score. Aaron Finch has just scored 146 runs this season, but he is too good a player to miss out for long. Shaun Marsh has been the only consistent player for the Renegades this edition, with 247 runs, including three fifties.
All-rounders: Lewis Gregory has picked up 6 wickets in 6 games that he has played thus far this edition and has been getting starts with the bat in hand. He has been striking at over 145 with the bat, and should be backed to come good. Imad Wasim is yet to leave his mark in the competition, but will have the onus in the absence of Mohammad Nabi.
Bowlers: Morne Morkel is likely to play his first BBL game this season against the Renegades, and he will be eager to start off with a bang. His pacey variations are sure to trouble the rival players. Mark Steketee is the leading wicket taker for the Heat thus far, with 16 scalps, including best figures of 4 for 33. Kane Richardson is his team’s leading wicket taker, with 12 wickets at an average of just under 23. His pace is sure to trouble the batsmen, while Peter Hatzoglou has picked up 10 wickets with a best haul of 3 for 43.
Captain and VC: Chris Lynn and Lewis Gregory
Match Prediction for BH vs MR:
Though Renegades won their last game, they lack consistency and depth. The Heat are starting to find form, and we expect them to get over the line.
