BLR vs DEL – What to expect:
Having secured a place in the playoffs of Indian T20 League 2021 with two games to spare, Bangalore would have made a giant leap towards a Qualifier 1 slot, had the defeated the last-placed Hyderabad in their last match.
However, they were handed a surprising 4-run defeat by Kane Williamson’s men, which kept them glued to the third place on the points table. That loss will hurt even more after Chennai’s defeat against Punjab, as their net run rate has taken a heavy beating.
Bangalore’s Qualifier 1 hopes are not over yet. They need to win their last match by a big margin. The major problem, however, is that in their last league stage match, they will be up against the team that has been the most consistent in this season – Delhi.
Rishabh Pant’s team secured 10 wins in 13 matches, and after Chennai’s defeat, it has been confirmed that they will end their league stage journey as the table-toppers. There will be absolutely nothing at stake for them in this match, expect momentum, which they can gain by securing a win.
Pitch Report of BLR vs DEL
The Dubai International Cricket Stadium surface initially started out as a batting-friendly track. In the first few matches, we saw teams scoring 150+ runs without much hassle. The story, however, has not been the same in the last few matches. We have not seen a single 140+ runs score in the last two matches, which shows that the pitch is now helping the bowlers as well. The chasing team has won all of the last five matches on this ground, and hence, toss will be a really important factor in this match.
Bangalore – Expected XI and Team News
Despite the unexpected defeat against Hyderabad, Bangalore are not likely to make too many changes to their team combination. Though Daniel Christian failed to deliver with the bat again, he was right on the money with the ball and picked up two important wickets. He is expected to retain his place in the playing XI, and it will be interesting to see whether George Garton gets another chance or not. Though he picked up a wicket in the last match, his economy rate was the worst among bowlers from both teams.
Bangalore Probable XI – Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, Daniel Christian, K Srikar Bharat (wk), Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Shahbaz Ahmed, George Garton, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
Delhi – Expected XI and Team News
Since they have nothing at stake and the playoffs are just around the corner, Delhi might make some changes to hand their key players some much-needed rest ahead of Qualifier 1. Avesh Khan has been playing consistently for the men in blue, and given he had a difficult outing against Chennai, Lukman Meriwala can replace him in the team for this match. Shikhar Dhawan, who is now at the autumn of his career, has also not had a rest. He might make way for Ajinkya Rahane for this particular match.
Rajasthan Probable XI – Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan/Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Ripal PatelShimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan/Lukman Meriwala.
Head to head record of BLR vs DEL
The head-to-head record between these two teams is something Delhi would not want to see, but Bangalore would certainly be proud of. Delhi have beaten the men in red on 10 occasions, while Bangalore have got the better of Delhi 16 times. Recent results, however, are not in Bangalore’s favour. In the last five meeting between these two teams, Delhi have emerged victoriously four times.
Team Bangalore – 16
Team Delhi – 10
BLR vs DEL: Five players to watch out
Here we take a look at five key players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI:
Glenn Maxwell: All-Rounder, Bangalore
Such has been the influence of Glenn Maxwell in this year’s Indian T20 League, that Bangalore always feel they are in the game as long as he is out in the middle. The Australian all-rounder has scored 447 runs in this season, which includes as many as five half-centuries. He scored 40 runs in the last match against Hyderabad, and before that, he had scored three half-centuries on the bounce.
Devdutt Padikkal: Batter, Bangalore
Besides Maxwell, Devdutt Padikkal is another player who has been simply amazing with the bat for Bangalore. He is Bangalore’s second-highest run-getter with 390 runs in 12 matches, and is the only player from his team to have scored a century in this season. His strike rate in the match against Hyderabad was not up to the mark, but he did score 41 runs.
Harshal Patel: Bowler, Bangalore
After a fantastic first phase, many doubted whether Harshal Patel would be able to show the same dominance with the ball in the second phase as well. The Bangalore bowler has done that, by picking up crucial wickets whenever his team wanted him to. He is the highest wicket-taker of this series, with 29 wickets in 13 matches. Patel picked up 3 wickets in his last match against Hyderabad, which meant that he now has picked up 12 wickets in his last 5 matches.
Shikhar Dhawan: Batter, Delhi
As we have mentioned previously, it will be interesting to see whether Delhi management decide to give Shikhar Dhawan some rest. If they don’t, you surely should not miss the chance of including him in your MPL fantasy team. He is Delhi’s highest run-scorer with 501 runs in 13 matches, which includes three half-centuries. In his last match against Chennai, he scored 39 runs.
Shreyas Iyer: Batter, Delhi
Having missed the first phase due to a shoulder injury, Shreyas Iyer has proved his mettle in the second phase in UAE. He has scored 126 runs in only 5 matches that he has played. While Iyer has not scored a half-century yet, he came close on two occasions. The 26-year-old scored 43 runs against Rajasthan and 47 runs against Hyderabad.
