BT vs STKNP, CPL 2020: MPL Fantasy Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

Match: St Kitts & Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Tridents

Date: August 25, 2020

Venue: Queens Park Oval – Port of Spain, Trinidad And Tobago

Both St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents are coming into this match on the back of a loss and will be looking to get back to winning ways. The Patriots are winless in this edition of the CPL, having lost all three games that they have played thus far. They lost their opener against Tridents by six runs, and went on to lose to Guyana Amazon Warriors by three wickets and St Lucia Zouks by ten runs.

Tridents, on the other hand, have just one win under their belt – their opening match against the Patriots. Since then they have gone down to St Lucia Zouks in a rain-affected game and Trinbago Knight Riders in the last match. Both teams, thus, will be desperate to get points on the board.

Weather and Pitch Conditions:

The match will be held at Port of Spain, where the weather prediction is much better than the one at Tarouba. The day will be hot with high levels of humidity and no chance of rain. The Queen’s Park Oval will dish out an evenly balanced wicket, and both teams will be eager to bat first on a fresh track.

STKNP Expected XI and Team News

Joshua da Silva and Sohail Tanvir returned to the XI in Patriots’ last match, though they were unable to prevent their side from a third successive loss. Expect more changes from the squad for this game.

Key players:

Chris Lynn: The Aussie has not returned to his aggressive best but has shown glimpses of what he is capable of in this CPL. He is a big-match player, and he will be eager to fire in this all-important game.

Rayad Emrit: The skipper has been one of the bright sparks in the Patriots line-up, taking 6 wickets thus far, including figures of 3 for 31 in the second game.

Sheldon Cottrell: The left-hander picked up 2 for 16 when the two sides last met earlier in this edition. He picked up a wicket in the second game, and though he was expensive in the last game, he can never be counted out.

Predicted XI:

Evin Lewis, Chris Lynn, Joshua da Silva, Ben Dunk, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Jamahr Hamilton, Sohail Tanvir, Rayad Emrit (c), Alzarri Joseph, Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell

BT Expected XI and Team News

Barbados have gone into all three games that they have played unchanged. They might be compelled to make a few changes after two defeats on the trot, however.

Key Players:

Rashid Khan: The Afghan spinner was in all-round form when the two sides last met, smashing an unbeaten 26 and picking up 2 for 27. He followed it up with another two-wicket haul in the next game, and though he was expensive last time around, he is the world’s top bowler.

Jason Holder: The skipper has been Trident’s top player with both bat and ball. He has scores of 38 from 22, 27 from 12 and 34* from 19 deliveries. He can bowl in the power plays as well, which makes him a top player.

Johnson Charles: The batsman was in top form in his side’s last game, smashing 52 from just 33 balls with the help of three sixes and four fours. He bats at the top of the order and can be counted upon to make an impact.

Predicted XI:

Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Corey Anderson, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (c), Jonathan Carter, Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh Jr

MPL Fantasy Prediction:

WK: Charles is a genuine match-winner and opens the batting for Tridents. He scored a fine fifty in the last game and can be expected to continue his form forward.

Batsmen: Lynn, Ben Dunk and Evin Lewis are all star players for the Patriots team. Lynn looked like he was getting back to his best in the last game and should be backed to get a big knock in this clash. Lewis is a genuine T20 star, while Dunk has played a number of crucial innings’ in CPL 2020. Corey Anderson might not have set the stage on fire just yet, but he bats at number three and can be a good option.

All-rounders: Sohail Tanvir has played two games and has picked up two wickets. His slower deliveries are hard to pick and he can be a real threat with the bat anywhere in the innings. Holder has played well in this edition, scoring 99 runs at a good strike rate. He has been economical as well and will bowl in the first six overs, when the batters will be after him. The chances of being among wickets, then, is maximum.

Bowlers: Emrit and Jon-Russ Jaggesar are my picks from the Patriots team. The skipper, Emrit, has been bowling well and already has six scalps in just three games. Russ has experience behind him and is a handy off-break bowler. He got two wickets in the last game and can be the X-factor. Rashid Khan is the best T20 bowler and despite being expensive in the last match is a must-have. Nurse is experienced, having turned out for his national team as well, and can be handy with the bat as well.

Captain and VC: Chris Lynn and Rashid Khan

Match Prediction:

Though both Tridents and Patriots are coming off dismal showings in the last few games, this match is expected to be heading towards the Tridents’ way. They are the defending champions and have a number of world-class players, and can be expected to make a strong comeback.

Barbados Tridents are expected to win.
