Chris Lynn may not get a game for the Mumbai Indians: Sanjay Manjrekar

The biggest and the much-coveted T20 tournament in the cricket world – Indian Premier League (IPL), is set to take off soon. The franchises made interesting buys in the IPL 2020 auctions conducted last year in December.

During the auction, one of the names that made the news was Chris Lynn, who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and picked by Mumbai Indians (MI). It was a steal deal, as they bought him at 2 crore INR, but owing to his form in CPL, its doubtful that he finds himself in the playing XI. On that note, former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Ashish Nehra spoke on Star Sports and shared their concerns about whether Lynn gets a chance with the Mumbai Indians.

“First thing is that just because his CPL has not gone well, it is not necessary that his IPL will also not be good. But had the CPL been good, his confidence would have been high, and he would have got more opportunities,” said Nehra in interaction with Star Sports.

The former left-arm quick added that Lynn’s inability to face spin has been one of the reasons behind his dull performances in the Caribbean Premier League.

“We have seen in the IPL as well that when it comes to spin bowling, he has difficulties. Although he tried in the match against Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) by playing a lot of deliveries, he still could not score a lot of runs.”

Mumbai Indians have Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock: Sanjay Manjrekar

Nehra is optimistic for Chris Lynn in IPL 2020 and believes that a player of his potential can be a match-winner for the defending champions. He added that Lynn’s association with the 4-time IPL champions can help him overcome the dry run with the bat. However, Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the Australian cricketer is unlikely to find himself in Mumbai Indians’ playing XI for even a sole contest.

” I feel Chris Lynn may not get a game for the Mumbai Indians because they have Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan in the team.”

Lynn had a forgettable run in CPL 2020. In 9 T20s with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, he could amass just 138 runs while averaging a mere 17.25.

Whether Mumbai Indians pick him in the playing XI is something only time can tell, but he gets an opportunity and shines, it would be a major confidence booster for the 30-year-old for the remaining matches of the season.
