CWG 2022 match 6: AUS-W vs BB-W T20I Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Australia women vs Barbados women T20I (AUS-W vs BB-W)

Date: July 31, 10:30 PM IST

Venue: Edgbaston, Birmingham, England

Australia women will take on Barbados Women in Match 6 of CWG Women’s Cricket 2022. Both the teams have got off to a good start in the competition, having won their respective opening games.

Barbados beat Pakistan by 15 runs in their first game of CWG 2022. Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight scored a half century each to guide the team to a first innings total of 144 runs. While 144 seemed insufficient at first, the Barbados bowlers did a wonderful job to defend it. Shamilia Connell, Aaliyah Alleyne, Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin picked up a wicket each as Pakistan eventually fell short of the target by 15 runs.

Australia, on the other hand, beat India by three wickets in a well fought contest. The likes of Shafali Verma and Harmanpreet Kaur performed well and took India to a first innings total of 154, which Australia chased down with an over remaining. Ashleigh Gardner top scored with an unbeaten 52 while Grace Harris scored 37 off 20. Earlier in the game, Jess Jonassen wreaked havoc, picking up four wickets in as many overs.

Both Australia and Barbados look equally strong on paper and promise an exciting game on the cards. Ahead of match 6 of CWG cricket 2022, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for AUS-W vs BB-W T20I

Edgbaston, Birmingham is an excellent batting pitch. Fast bowlers get plenty of assistance from the surface but spinners do not get enough turn. A total of 10 T20 internationals have been played at this venue in the past, of which only one match has been won chasing. The captain winning the toss is likely to opt to bat first. The weather during the game will be overcast and we could see showers interrupt the game. The temperature will fluctuate between 26 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for AUS-W vs BB-W

Meg Lanning: batter, Australia

Australian skipper Meg Lanning scored just eight runs in the game against India but is still a must-have player in your fantasy cricket team. Lanning did well in the recent T20I series against Ireland, which includes scores of 39* and 74. She is also among the most experienced players in this fixture, having played 120 T20 internationals from which she has a batting average and strike rate of 36.80 and 116.49.

Jess Jonassen – bowler, Australia

Jess Jonassen was terrific in the game against India, picking up four wickets in her four overs while conceding 22 runs. Her economy rate of 5.50 was the best among all the bowlers. She has been in fine form in the recent past, having 15 wickets in her last five outings. In all, Jonassen has picked up 84 wickets in 90 T20Is.

Beth Mooney – batter, Australia

Like Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney was also not able to perform well in the first match but is still an important player to have in your fantasy team. Mooney has an impressive average of over 36 in 66 T20Is and a strike rate of 122.09.

Hayley Matthews – all-rounder, Barbados

Hayley Matthews was excellent with both the bat and ball in the game against Pakistan. She scored 51 runs with the bat and then picked up a wicket in her four overs while conceding only 13 runs. In all, she has 1106 runs and 59 wickets in 62 T20Is.

Kycia Knight – batter, Barbados

Kycia Knight top scored for Barbados in the previous game with a knock of 62* runs and will be looking to replicate the same against Australia. Knight brings with her the experience of 65 T20Is, from which she has a batting average of 17.79. If not Knight, Deandra Dottin is another excellent pick for your fantasy team.
