Match: Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, CPL 2021 2nd semi-final

Date: September 14, Tuesday

Venue: Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts

After almost three weeks of league stage action, CPL 2021 is now heading towards its playoffs, with the top four teams confirmed. Trinbago Knight Riders will take on the St Lucia Kings in the first semi-final, while Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will battle it out in the second semi-final. In their final game of the league stage, the Patriots were outdone by the Knight Riders after they failed to defend 147 runs. Kieron Pollard’s half-century helped the Knights gun down the target with six balls remaining. The Amazon Warriors, on the other hand, won their last league game by 14 runs against the Jamaica Tallawahs. Batting first, the Nicholas Pooran-led side put up 142 runs on the board which they defended with the help of three wickets each from Romario Shepherd and Odean Smith.

Patriots got the better of Guyana in both the league stage fixtures of CPL 2021 and will now be looking for a hat-trick of wins in the all-important semi-final on September 13 at Warner Park.

GAW vs SKNP: Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for GAW vs SKNP, CPL 2021 2nd semi-final.

Evin Lewis: Batter, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Despite being rested in the previous game, Evin Lewis still remains CPL 2021’s second-highest run-scorer with 343 runs at an average and strike rate of 42.87 and 158.79. He has also hit the most number of sixes in the league stage – 30. 11 of those sixes came in his unbeaten 102 off 52 balls against the Knight Riders three nights ago. One of the most experienced players in CPL, Lewis will look to finish the tournament as the highest run-scorer before embarking on his maiden IPL journey. The batter is priced at 10 credits.

Nicholas Pooran: Wicketkeeper-batter, Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana skipper is his team’s highest run-scorer with 237 runs at an average and strike rate of 33.85 and 161.22. The stylish southpaw scored an unbeaten 75 off 39 balls against the Tallawahs two nights ago, and will be looking to replicate a similar performance in the playoffs. Pooran brings with him the experience of playing in several T20 leagues and has an impressive strike rate of over 143 in 195 T20s. His current form would be his best chance to help Guyana win their maiden CPL title. His price on the MPL app is 9.5 credits.

Sherfane Rutherford – Batter, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Rutherford has had a topsy-turvy CPL 2021 so far. While he has scored three fifties, there have also been a few thoroughly disappointing knocks from him. But the 23-year-old T20 globetrotter will be looking to stand up for the team when it matters the most. Known for his power hitting, Rutherford has a batting strike rate of 136.60 in T20s. He can be included in your MPL XI by shelling out 9 credits.

Romario Shepherd – Bowler, Guyana Amazon Warriors

The medium pacer is CPL 2021’s highest wicket-taker so far with 18 scalps in eight games and was impressive in the previous game too, where not only did he pick up three wickets to help defend 142 runs, but also scored an unbeaten off just 31 balls at a strike rate of almost 233. The 26-year-old has 43 wickets and 197 runs in 35 T20s and going by his current form, he is a must-have bowler in your MPL XI team. Shepherd’s price for this game is 9 credits.

Odean Smith – All-rounder, Guyana Amazon Warriors

Another important Guyana bowler for this game is Odean Smith, who has 16 wickets in ten games at an economy rate of under seven runs per over. The medium pacer picked up three wickets for 20 runs in the previous game and will be looking to carry that momentum into the playoffs. He is also a capable batter having a top score of 43 in this year’s CPL. Smith’s price on MPL is 10 credits.
