Match: Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders (CSK vs KKR)
Date:October 29, 2020
Venue: Dubai Cricket Stadium – Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Chennai Super Kings are the first team to be ruled out of IPL 2020, but will be looking to play for pride. They have just four wins thus far, and though Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran have fared well, they have hardly found support from the remaining players. They will be high on confidence after a fine win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last game, and will want to continue their form.
Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have blown hot and cold thus far, and have 12 points. It is a must-win game for them, and they will hope to win by a large margin as well. They have not yet played to their full potential, and enter the game on the back of a loss against Kings XI Punjab.
The weather in Dubai is predicted to be in the high thirties with humidity close to 60%. There will hardly be any breeze, which will make life tougher for the cricketers.
The track has slowed down of late, and the slower bowlers will come in handy here. Both KKR and CSK have a couple of dangerous spinners who could be effective here. However, with dew around, the batters will have a field day in the second innings. A target of 180 should be competitive.
The teams that will win the toss might opt to bat first and get a good total on the board, which will put the rival team under pressure. However, if there is dew, chasing might be an option.
CSK Expected XI and Team News
The last game was an excellent one for CSK, and we do not expect them to change their XI.
Faf du Plessis: The South African has looked in excellent form this season, with four fifties. He has been the most consistent batter for CSK, and will want to play another match-winning knock.
Sam Curran: The youngster has been excellent with both bat and ball and has been one of the rare positives for the team in an otherwise dismal season.
Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir, Monu Kumar
KKR Expected XI and Team News
Kolkata Knight Riders have been unable to get their combination right this season. They are also without the services of Andre Russell, who has pulled his hamstring. If he is fit, he could replace Pat Cummins in the XI. KKR might also get in Siddhesh Lad for Prasidh Krishna to beef up their batting.
Eoin Morgan: The KKR skipper has played a couple of handy knocks this season but is yet to get a 50. He has been batting at number 5 or 6 thus far, and will be tempted to bat at 4 – his usual position for England.
Nitish Rana: The player has been opening the innings of late. He scored a quick 81 against Kings XI Punjab over the weekend and will want to give his side another solid start.
Shubhman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Eoin Morgan(C), Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins/Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna/Siddhesh Lad, Varun Chakravarthy, Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Head to head record of CSK vs KKR:
CSK have won 13 of the 22 games that the two have played in the history of the IPL, with KKR winning 8. One match ended in a No Result. Kolkata had got the better of CSK when the two teams had met earlier this season.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for CSK vs KKR:
WK: Both Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni are not in the best form, but we have gone ahead with the KKR wicket-keeper as he costs 0.5 credits less, which allows us to pick more expensive players in the MPL fantasy team.
Batsmen: Eoin Morgan played a counter-attacking game after KKR had slumped to 10 for 3 against Kings XI Punjab. He is yet to get a 50 and will want to play a captain’s knock. Shubman Gill is the leading run-scorer for KKR this year, while Nitish Rana had scored a fine 81 against Delhi Capitals earlier. Faf du Plessis has 4 fifties thus far and has been the key for CSK, while Ruturaj Gaikwad played a match-winning knock in the last game and will want to carry on.
All-rounders: Sunil Narine can be lethal with the ball in hand, and is dangerous with the bat as well. He had scored a fine sixty against Delhi Capitals. Sam Curran has been picking up regular wickets and has a dangerous strike rate as well.
Bowlers: Lockie Ferguson has picked up 6 wickets in 4 matches while Varun Chakravarthy has 13 wickets, including a 5-wicket haul. He has given runs at a rate of just 7.18 per over, and has been the X-factor in the KKR side. Imran Tahir has plenty of experience and will want to leave his mark in IPL 2020.
Captain and VC: Eoin MOrgan and Faf du Plessis
Match Prediction for CSK vs KKR:
CSK have been eliminated from IPL 2020 but will be dangerous with a “nothing to lose” attitude. However, KKR will play with a lot at stake – they need to win their remaining two games to qualify, and we expect skipper Eoin Morgan to play a blinder. The Englishman has got starts and will want to take his team close.
Kolkata Knight Riders are the favourites.
