CSK vs MI, IPL 2020: MPL Fantasy Preview, Match Predictions, Probable XI

Match: Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians (CSK vs MI)

Date:October 23, 2020

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium – Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

Chennai Super Kings are currently on the bottom of the points table and another loss will officially put an end to their IPL 2020 campaign. Their batting has lacked sting while their bowling has been well below-par, to say the least. Though the MS Dhoni-led side had defeated Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener, they have only gone downhill from then, with just two more wins in 11 games.

Mumbai, on the other hand, have been top notch in the tournament. They will enter the game after a tight loss to Kings XI Punjab in two Super Overs, and will be looking to get back to winning ways. Every batsman in the MI team is in excellent form, while the fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult have been impressive both at the death and with the new ball. They, thus, enter the game as firm favourites.

Weather Update:

The weather in Sharjah will be warm and dry with temperatures hovering around the 38-degree mark.

Pitch Report:

The wicket in Sharjah had aided big hits in the first half of the tournament, but of late, the wicket has gotten slower. Batting is not the easiest at the venue, especially if a side is chasing. A target of anything around 175 will be considered par and competitive.

Toss Prediction:

The teams that will win the toss might opt to bat first as the wicket is getting slower with each passing day. However, the team that chased won the last two games, and if there is dew the skipper winning the toss will have a difficult choice to make.

CSK Expected XI and Team News

Chennai Super Kings are down in the dumps, but MS Dhoni is unlikely to make many changes to the XI. He has hard;y given youngsters a chance in this tournament, and has instead backed out of form players such as Kedar Jadhav and Ambati Rayudu. Imran Tahir has been warming the bench, and it remains to be seen if he is given a chance. Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of IPL 2020.

Key players:

Faf du Plessis: The South African is the highest run-scorer for CSK with four fifties to his name. He has been giving his team steady starts and will be expected to lead the charge yet again.

Ravindra Jadeja: The all-rounder has batted decently in the last few games, and even has a 50 to his name. He has been economical in the last few matches too.

Predicted XI:

Sam Curran, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C&wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, Josh Hazlewood, Shardul Thakur

MI Expected XI and Team News

Mumbai Indians have played only 13 cricketers in IPL 2020 – which tells us that the team does not like changing their XI. Despite a close loss in the last match, Mumbai might go in with the same side.

Key Players:

Quinton de Kock: The South African opener has back to back fifties in his last two games and has been in aggressive form. He has been giving his team steady starts, and will be the key yet again.

Jasprit Bumrah: The Indian was superb in the Super Over in the last game, giving away just 5 runs. He has been economical and has 15 wickets to his name thus far.

Predicted XI:

Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav,  Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Head to head record of CSK vs MI:

The two teams have met each other in 31 games, with MI having a slight advantage over CSK. Mumbai have won 18 games against Chennai, while CSK have 13 victories. The two teams had met in the tournament opener, with Chennai thumping Mumbai.

MPL Fantasy Prediction for CSK vs MI:

WK: Quinton de Kock has two successive fifties and currently has 322 runs, which has been scored at a strike rate of more than 146. He is unstoppable if he gets going, and will want to continue his form.

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma has been leading from the front with 260 runs. He has anchored the innings to perfection, which has allowed de Kock to play his natural game. Hardik Pandya has played crucial cameos lower down the order, while Faf du Plessis is the only bright spark for CSK thus far. Shane Watson has played a couple of handy knocks, and will want to get a big knock.

All-rounders: Kieron Pollard has 208 runs and has been striking the ball well. He also has 2 wickets with the ball, while Krunal Pandya has kept things tight in the middle. He can also chip in with the bat in hand. Sam Curran has been another impressive player for CSK this year with 10 wickets and 121 runs.

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah has 15 wickets to his name thus far, and has found his rhythm after a quiet start. Rahul Chahar has been crucial in the middle overs, while MS Dhoni has put a lot of faith in Karn Sharma.

Captain and VC: Quinton de Kock and Kieron Pollard

Match Prediction for CSK and MI:

Though Chennai got the better of Mumbai Indians in the opener, on paper and current form, MI have a huge advantage. They have a strong batting unit while their bowling attack is one of the best in the competition. Chennai, on the other hand, is going from bad to worse, and has plenty of issues to resolve.

Mumbai Indians are the favourites to win.
