Match: Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals (CSK vs RR)
Date:October 19, 2020
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Chennai Super Kings have been inconsistent this season and have just three wins from nine games thus far. They last won against Sunrisers Hyderabad before going down in their previous encounter against Delhi Capitals. However, the unit will take heart from the performance of their batters, with players such as Faf du Plessis, Cam Curran, Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja firing. The pacers have been decent as well but the spin department is a big issue. They might consider getting in Imran Tahir for the game with the injury to Dwayne Bravo.
RR, on the other hand, too have been unable to get going this season. Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler have been inconsistent this season while the bowling is heavily reliant on Jofra Archer.
The weather in Abu Dhabi will be hot and humid. There will be wind in the evening though, which should help the players massively.
The ground in Abu Dhabi has seen a good balance between bat and ball. Pacers get good help here, and a target of 170 should be considered competitive.
Both teams will be looking to bat first after winning the toss. The competition has helped sides that have batted first thus far, and the trend is unlikely to change anytime soon.
CSK Expected XI and Team News
Coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will be out for a couple of weeks due to a groin injury. We can finally expect Imran Tahir to make the XI in his absence. CSK have struggled in the spin department this season, and Tahir’s presence will bolster the line-up.
Faf du Plessis: The CSK opener played a fine knock against DC and can be backed to come good yet again. RR do not have the best fast bowlers except Jofra Archer, and Faf will look to get a bg knock.
Shane Watson: The former Aussie cricketer has got starts in his last three games. He is yet to play a big knock, however, and will be hoping to play a defining knock in an important game.
Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, Shane Watson Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Karn Sharma
RR Expected XI and Team News
Rajasthan Royals have made a number of changes to their XI this season but not many have worked out. The team might get in Manan Vohra in the side while Varun Aaron is expected to come in for Jaydev Unadkat, who was expensive against RCB.
Ben Stokes: The Englishman had scored 41 against Delhi Capitals earlier this week, which shows that he is in good touch. He missed out in the match against RCB but will be looking to get a big knock in an important match. He can also chip in with the ball.
Jofra Archer: The English fast bowler has been in great form and has been lethal with the new ball and at the death. He can also send the ball a long way with the bat in hand.
Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Smith (c), Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Rahul Tewatiya, Shreyas Gopal, Riyan Parag/Manan Vohra, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Karthik Tyagi, Jayadev Unadkat.
Head to head record of CSK vs RR:
The two teams have played 23 games against each other in the history of the IPL, with CSK having a huge advantage as far as the head to head record is concerned. The MS Dhoni led team have won 14 games against RR, while Rajasthan have 9 wins.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for CSK vs RR:
WK: Jos Buttler has blown hot and cold in this IPL, but he is one of the most dangerous white-ball cricketers and should be backed. He had scored a fine 70 a few games ago, and will want to play a defining knock yet again.
Batsmen: Faf du Plessis has 365 runs in this season with four fifties to his name. He has been striking the ball at more than 142, and has been the only bright spark for CSK in IPL 2020. Shane Watson has played a few good innings of late despite starting off slowly. Steven Smith smashed a fine fifty in the last game against RCB. He was under pressure before the match but played a captain’s knock. Riyan Parag helped RR chase down a big target against SRH, and will want to leave a mark.
All-rounders: Ben Stokes has been opening the innings of late. He scored a fine 41 against Delhi earlier and will want to play a big knock. Rahul Tewatia has been scoring runs and getting wickets consistently, while Sam Curran has been economical and has also been striking the ball at more than 160.
Bowlers: Jofra Archer has been lethal with the new ball and at the death while youngster Kartik Tyagi has been impressive ever since he made his IPL debut. Deepak Chahar can swing the ball in the powerplay overs and will be crucial.
Captain and VC: Jos Buttler and Sam Curran
Match Prediction for CSK vs RR:
Both Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have struggled thus far and will be under tremendous pressure to do well. They have three wins each and will be eyeing a win to have a chance of a top four berth. Imran Tahir might play the upcoming game, and we back him to have a good game, which puts the advantage in CSK’s favour.
CSK are expected to win.
