CWG 2022 bronze medal match: ENG-W vs NZ-W Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: England women vs New Zealand women T20I (ENG-W vs NZ-W)

Date: August 7, 6:30 PM IST

Venue: Edgbaston, Birmingham, England

England Women will take on New Zealand Women in the bronze medal match CWG Women’s Cricket 2022. Both the teams lost their respective semi-final games and will now be eyeing a prize in the bronze medal game.

England suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the first semi final. Chasing 165 runs to win, England put up a good fight for most of the chase before eventually losing the game by merely four runs. Danny Wyatt, skipper Nat Sciver and Amy Jones were among runs. The Kiwis, on the other hand, were defeated by Australia by five wickets. After restricting New Zealand to a total of 144 in the first innings, they chased down the target comfortably. Beth Mooney top scored with a knock of 36, while Tahlia McGrath, Rachel Haynes and Ashleigh Gardner were also among runs.

When England and New Zealand met in the league stage, the Nat Sciver-led side won by seven wickets. Both the teams will now look to make the most of their resources and grab the bronze medal.

Ahead of the bronze medal match at CWG cricket 2022, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for ENG-W vs NZ-W T20I

Edgbaston, Birmingham is a decent batting pitch. Pace bowlers get plenty of assistance from the surface but spinners have historically not fared well here. A total of 17 T20 internationals have been played at this venue in the past, of which 15 games have been won by the teams batting first. The captain winning the toss is thus likely to opt to bat first. The average first innings score on this ground is 164, while the average second innings score is 134. The highest total recorded is 221 for 5 while the lowest total recorded is 121 for 10.

The weather during the game will be overcast and we could see showers interrupt the game. The temperature will fluctuate between 26 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for ENG-W vs NZ-W

Sophie Ecclestone – bowler, England

Sophie Ecclestone is currently the best bowler in women’s cricket as per the ICC T20I rankings. The slow left arm spin bowler has been economical in all the games so far. She started her CWG 2022 campaign with three wickets for 25 runs against South Africa. In the next two games, she picked up a wicket each while conceding very few runs. Ecclestone can also chip in with a few runs with the bat and help you score points in your fantasy team.

Nat Sciver – all-rounder, England

Nat Sciver is a great investment for your fantasy cricket team. Apart from a knock of 41 against India in the semi-final, Sciver is yet to produce a performance of substance. But that doesn’t take away much from her being one of the best all-rounders in women’s cricket. From 97 T20Is she has a batting average and strike rate of over 25.05 and 113.10. With the ball, she has 76 wickets in the format.

Hayley Jansen – bowler, New Zealand

Hayley Jansen was New Zealand’s match winner in the match against Sri Lanka, where she picked up three wickets while conceding merely five runs. These are now among the best bowling figures in not just women’s cricket but also men’s cricket. In all, Jansen has 36 wickets in 45 T20Is.

Suzie Bates – batter, New Zealand

Suzie Bates scored an unbeaten 91 against South Africa, which was also one of the best performances at the cricket games at CWG 2022. But her form has dipped after that knock and she will be looking to get back to runs in the bronze medal match. Bates has overall played 131 T20Is, scoring 3531 runs at an average and strike rate of 29.92 and 110.89.

Katherine Brunt: bowler, England

In the group stage game between New Zealand and England, Katherine Brunt registered figures of 2/4 from her three overs and will want to do the same in the bronze medal game.
