Match: Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings (DC vs CSK)
Date:October 17, 2020
Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium – Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
Delhi Capitals have 12 points and just need another win from their last 6 games to qualify for the top four. They recently won their last game against Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan had top scored with 57 as the side piled on 161 for 7 before the pace bowling duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje wreaked havoc. DC had defeated Chennai earlier in the edition, and will be high on confidence. Delhi will be without the services of Rishabh Pant for this game as well.
CSK, on the other hand, have had an inconsistent season so far but returned to winning ways with a 20-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last encounter. They have three wins from eight matches thus far, and they need to win at least four more games from six to have a chance of qualifying for the next stage.
The weather in Sharjah will be hot and humid, with temperatures touching the 40-degree mark.
The ground in Sharjah has been a good batting wicket. The small boundaries here will aid big-hitting, but the wicket tends to get slower as the match progresses.
Earlier, the teams that won the toss were eager to chase at the venue, but the wicket has become slower of late. Batting first will be the preferred option.
DC Expected XI and Team News
Delhi Capitals will be without the services of Rishabh Pant for a few more games, which means that Alex Carey has been wicket-keeping for the franchise. Ajinkya Rahane has come into the XI, while Shimron Hetmyer has been dropped. Though the move has not paid off, DC might stick with the same XI due to lack of resources.
Shreyas Iyer: The DC skipper moved to 298 runs in the last game after he smashed 53 against RR – his second fifty of the edition. He had scored an unbeaten 88 off just 38 deliveries earlier in this venue.
Kagiso Rabada: The South African picked up 1 for 28 in the last game and has the Purple Cap with 18 wickets to his name. He now has picked up at least a wicket in the last 22 IPL games that he has played.
Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Tushar Deshpande
CSK Expected XI and Team News
Sam Curran was asked to open the innings in the last game, and it was a move that paid dividends. CSK might go in with the same experiment against DC. They are unlikely to make any changes to their XI.
Faf du Plessis: The South African had smashed 43 when the two teams last met and will be high on confidence. The opener has three fifties to his name thus far.
Sam Curran: The all-rounder scored a brisk 31 while opening the innings in the last game. He has been batting with a strike rate of more than 160 this season and also has nine wickets to his name.
Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c, wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, Shardul Thakur, Karn Sharma
Head to head record of DC vs CSK:
The two teams have played 22 games against each other in the history of the IPL, with CSK having a huge advantage over Delhi. They have won 15 matches against DC thus far, while Delhi have registered 7 wins. Delhi had dominated Chennai when the two teams had last met this season, however.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for DC vs CSK:
WK: Alex Carey has not been able to fire yet with the bat in hand, but he will be itching to leave his mark in the IPL. He has played a number of good hands for Australia and can never be counted out.
Batsmen: Shikhar Dhawan scored a fine fifty for his side in the last game and he will be eager to carry his form forward. Shreyas Iyer has two fifties to his name thus far, including one in the last game against RR. Prithvi Shaw has been giving his team handy starts while Faf du Plessis is his team’s highest run scorer. The runs have dried up for him of late, but he is a class player. Ambati Rayudu has been playing vital knocks in a few games, and will be eyeing a match-winning performance against a strong DC unit.
All-rounders: Sam Curran was asked to open in the last game and the move paid off. He has been scoring crucial runs for CSK this season and has also picked up 9 wickets. Marcus Stoinis has been the X-factor for Delhi this season.
Bowlers: Anrich Nortje cranked up the pace in the last game, and sent down the fastest ball ever in the IPL history as he touched the 156kmph mark. He, along with Kagiso Rabada have been the key players with the ball for DC. Rabada has the Purple Cap in this edition with 18 scalps. Shardul Thakur is the last player in our MPL fantasy team.
Captain and VC: Shreyas Iyer and Kagiso Rabada
Match Prediction for DC vs CSK:
Dekhi Capitals, despite their recent form, have a number of issues to address – most importantly their top order batting. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane are not the quickest scorers, and CSK will be targeting this weakness. They barely managed to get past a win in their last game against RR. CSK, on the other hand, have made a strong comeback and will want to carry the form forward.
Chennai Super Kings are the favourites to win.
