Match: Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals (DC vs RR)
Date:October 14, 2020
Venue: Dubai Cricket Stadium – Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Delhi Capitals will want to return to the top of the table when they take on Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. The DC team have won five of their seven games thus far, which includes a 46-run win over RR when the two teams had last met earlier this season. They come into the game on the back of a five-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians, however.
RR, on the other hand, got back to form with a come-from-behind win against SRH in their last encounter. The Steven Smith-led side had won their first two games of the tournament convincingly but slipped below the top four with four successive losses. The win against SRH, however, will give them confidence. Delhi are without the services of Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma – both injured – and managing the line-up will be the key.
A hot and humid evening awaits in Dubai. It will be a dry and a clear evening with hardly any breeze. The temperature will hover around the 40-degree mark.
The ground in Dubai is a well-balanced track. Runs will be easy to score in the first half of the innings but the pitch will dry down as the match progresses. A target of 170 can be competitive.
The toss will be important as the wicket here will get slower in the second half. Chasing will not be the easiest, and the team that wins the toss will be looking to bat first.
DC Expected XI and Team News
Rishabh Pant will miss the next few games for DC due to a hamstring injury. In his place, Alex Carey took the gloves in the last match with Shimron Hetmyer making way. Ajinkya Rahane batted at number three, and the same combination is likely to continue. Harshal Patel was expensive in the last game, but with Ishant Sharma ruled out of IPL 2020, he is likely to continue.
Kagiso Rabada: The South African picked up three wickets when DC had last met RR. He has 17 wickets in the tournament thus far and has the Purple Cap.
Marcus Stoinis: The all-rounder smashed a quick 39 in the game against RR, and now has 105 runs in his last three games. He also has three wickets in his last three matches, which is evidence of his all-round skills
Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel
RR Expected XI and Team News
Ben Stokes returned to the XI in the last game, which meant his English teammate Tom Curran missed out. The team could go in unchanged after a fine win in the last match.
Jos Buttler: The big-hitting wicket-keeper had scored a fine 70 against Mumbai Indians earlier but has been unable to follow up the score. He, however, is one the best batsman if he gets going.
Ben Stokes: The English all-rounder was in fine form before he left for New Zealand for personal reasons. He is the biggest match-winner with both bat and ball.
Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wk), Steve Smith (c), Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Jaydev Unadkat, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Kartik Tyagi
Head to head record of DC vs RR:
There is hardly anything to choose between the two sides in the 21 games that they have played thus far. Delhi have 10 wins, while RR have 11 but Delhi come into the game with four successive wins against RR.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for DC vs RR:
WK: Jos Buttler is key at the top for RR, despite a few quiet games. He is the most dangerous player in the format if he gets going. DC will be without the services of Pant, and Alex Carey is yet to make a mark in the IPL, which further forces us to pick Buttler.
Batsmen: Shreyas Iyer and Steven Smith are both crucial players for their respective teams. Iyer had recently smashed 88 in just 38 balls, while Smith is the greatest player in the format. Riyan Parag played a match-winning knock in the last match against SRH, while Prithvi Shaw has scored a couple of fifties along with a few forties. He has been giving his team quick starts, and will be the key yet again, especially in the absence of Pant.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis is in excellent form this IPL 2020, with two fifties thus far. He has scored more than 100 runs in his last three innings and has wickets to his name as well. Rahul Tewatia played an unbeaten match-winning knock against SRH and has been economical with the ball as well. Ben Stokeswas asked to open the innings in the last game, and though he failed to get going, if he clicks, he will be unstoppable.
Bowlers: The three fast bowlers have been the key for their respective teams. Kagiso Rabada has picked up 17 wickets thus far, and has a wicket in his last 21 IPL games. Anrich Nortje has been economical, while Jofra Archer can pitch in with the bat as well lower down the order.
Captain and VC: Jonny Bairstow and Faf du Plessis
Match Prediction for DC vs RR:
DC are the team to beat this season, but they have been hampered by the absence of Pant. In his absence, DC have to play Dhawan and Rahane at the top – and the two are not the greatest strikers of the ball. Rajasthan come into the game on the back of a win and will be high on confidence.
Delhi Capitals are the favourites to win.
