ENG vs AUS, 3rd ODI: MPL Fantasy Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

Match: England vs Australia

Date: September 16, 2020

Venue: Old Trafford – Manchester, England

Australia end their white-ball tour of England with the third and final ODI that will be held at Manchester. The series is tied 1-1, with all to play for in the final clash. Australia, after going down in the T20 series, started the ODIs with a bang, scoring 294 for 9 in their 50 overs in the first game, with Glenn Maxwell (77) and Mitchell Marsh (73) playing vital knocks. In reply, the home team struggled to 275 for 9, despite Sam Billings’ ton. Adam Zampa starred with the ball, picking up 4 for 55 to hand the Aussies a win.

The second game, however, saw the Australians struggle as their batting let them down. Despite the bowlers restricting England to 225 for 9, the Aussies were unable to seal the win even after being comfortably placed at 144 for 2 in 31 overs. Chris Woakes (3 for 32) and Jofra Archer (3 for 35) hit back as the visitors were all out for 207 to level the series 1-1.

Weather and Pitch Conditions:

Matchday is likely to be cloudy, but rain is expected to stay away. The second ODI of the series saw the fast bowlers getting plenty of assistance, and that could be the norm yet again at Manchester. A well-balanced game between bat and ball can be expected.

ENG Expected XI and Team News

Both Sam and Tom Curran played the second ODI and could retain their places after impressing in the clash. Mark Wood and Moeen Ali missed the last game, and they are likely to be in the benches yet again.

Key players:

Tom Curran: The all-rounder was impressive in the 2nd ODI, scoring a crucial knock of 37 lower down the order and then conceding just 28 from his 10 overs to make life tough for the rivals.

Jofra Archer: The fast bowler has six wickets in this series, picking up 3 for 57 in the 1st ODI and 3 for 34 in the last clash. He has been on fire, and with the conditions likely to suit him again, he will be crucial.

Eoin Morgan: The skipper is in terrific form, and will be eager to carry it forward. Morgan is one of the finest hitters in the ODI set-up, and will fancy his chances of a big score.

Predicted XI:

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Billings, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer

AUS Expected XI and Team News

The Aussies have been without injured Steven Smith for the ODI series, and he is likely to be rested for this game as well. However, he will be slotted right back in if he is fit, with Marnus Labuschagne likely to make way, despite hitting a fine 48 in the last match.

Key Players:

Aaron Finch: The skipper of the side smashed 73 in the last ODI to continue his good form on the tour. He has been giving the team fiery starts, but has been let down by the middle order, and he will be eager to stay till the end and play a defining innings.

Glenn Maxwell: After an indifferent T20I series, Maxwell hit top form in the ODIs, as he smashed 77 from 59 balls in the first ODI. He is also a handy off-spinner.

Adam Zampa: The spinner has picked up seven wickets in the ODI series, with a four wicket haul in the first game, which was followed by 3 for 36 last time around.

Predicted XI:

David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

MPL Fantasy Prediction:

WK:  Jonny Bairstow is our selection here for he opens the innings, and is a dangerous player on his day. Though he can be inconsistent, if he gets going, he can be a dangerous prospect.

Batsmen: David Warner and Aaron Finch have been selected from the Aussie team, with both openers capable of winning games on their day. Finch, especially, has been unstoppable, and looks all set for a bigger score. Marnus Labuschagne has been picked, considering Steven Smith might not play this encounter. He struck 48 in the last match and looks in solid touch. Eoin Morgan is one of the most threatening white-ball cricketers and he will be looking to play a captain’s knock.

All-rounders: Chris Woakes is a genuine match-winner with both bat and ball. He was crucial in the second ODI and is a value pick. Glenn Maxwell did not have the best run in the T20Is, but he is a dependable match-winner, like he showed in the first ODI. He can also chip in with the ball when needed.

Bowlers: Jofra Archer proved how dangerous he can be in the white-ball in the recent T20I series and the first two ODIs. With conditions assisting him, he will be a player to watch out for. Adam Zampa has been the key with the ball for the visitors, with seven wickets, while Pat Cummins will want to end the series on a high. Adil Rashid is the last pick in our team. The English spinner has provided breakthroughs at important moments.

Captain and VC: Aaron Finch and Eoin Morgan

Match Prediction:

The two teams are fierce rivals, and we can expect another big game. The odds are, however, stacked in favour of the home team. England are one of the best teams in 50-over cricket at the moment, and have plenty of big-hitters who can run away with the game on any day.

England are expected to win.
