ENG vs IND 1st T20I Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: England vs India, 1st T20I (ENG vs IND)

Date: July 7, Thursday, 10:30 PM IST

Venue: Rose Bowl, Southampton

After the rescheduled fifth Test match which England won, the action now moves to the three-match T20I series beginning on July 7. Rohit Sharma will be returning to action after missing the Test match due to Covid19.

India is currently the world’s top-ranked ICC team while England are in the second spot. If England whitewash India in the upcoming series, the numero uno spot will belong to them. After Eoin Morgan’s retirement, the team will now be led by Jos Buttler.

India are unbeaten in their last five T20I series – they have won four and drawn one. The last time they lost a T20I series was against Sri Lanka in 2021. England, on the other hand, have won three and lost two of their last five T20I series. Earlier this year, they lost 2-3 to West Indies.

The visitors have announced two separate squads for the first T20I and for the remaining two. Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, who played the fifth Test, have been rested and will join the team for the last two matches.

Ahead of the first game in Southampton, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for ENG vs IND

Jos Buttler: wicketkeeper batsman, England

All eyes will be on Jos Buttler, who will be embarking on his new journey as white-ball captain of England after Eoin Morgan’s retirement. The English opener has been in sensational form this year. He was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2022, after which he scored an unbeaten 162 and unbeaten 86 against Netherlands in an ODI series. Buttler has played 88 T20 internationals, from which he has 2140 runs at an average and strike rate of 34.51 and 141.16.

Rohit Sharma: batsman, India

Rohit Sharma is back with the team after missing the fifth Test due to COVID-19. The Indian captain is a must-have player in your fantasy team. Rohit is India’s highest run-scorer in the shortest format with 3313 runs at an average of 32.48 and strike rate of almost 140. He needs seven more boundaries to get to 300 fours in T20Is and could do that in this series.

Hardik Pandya – all-rounder, India

Hardik Pandya has been in fine form over the last three months. He put up match-winning performances in IPL 2022 and led Gujarat Titans to the trophy, and followed that with impressive performances in the international series that followed. The all-rounder will be looking to carry on with his good form against England and subsequently secure a place for himself on the flight to Australia for the World Cup.

Moeen Ali – all-rounder, England

Following Eoin Morgan’s retirement, Moeen Ali may bat ahead of his usual position in the lower middle order. This will be the 50th T20 international for the all-rounder and he will be looking to make it special. He has a batting strike rate of nearly 137 in 49 T20Is and 33 wickets.

Suryakumar Yadav – batsman, India

Suryakumar Yadav didn’t have the best of times in the series against Ireland and will be looking to make amends for it. He has impressed in the overall 16 T20Is since his debut, scoring 366 runs at an average of 33.27 and strike rate of 167.88.
