ENG vs SA 2nd ODI Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: England vs South Africa, 2nd ODI (ENG vs SA)

Date: July 22, Friday, 5:30 PM IST

Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

After the opening ODI which the visitors won, England and South Africa will lock horns in the second ODI at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, July 22.

In the first game of the series, South Africa were brilliant with both the bat and the ball. Batting first, the scored 333 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs. Rassie van der Dussen was the showstopper with a knock of 134 runs off 117 deliveries. Janneman Malan and Aiden Markram also scored half centuries. In the second innings, Anrich Nortje’s four wickets and two wickets each from Tabraiz Shamsi and Aiden Markram helped South Africa defend the target. England’s top order of Jason Roy (43), Jonny Bairstow (63) and Joe Root (86) did well, but the remainder of the batting lineup collapsed like a pack of cards. Captain Jos Buttler, who has underperformed since being appointed the skipper, once again failed to contribute runs. If England lose the second ODI, they will also lose their second successive ODI series at home. South Africa, meanwhile, swept India 3-0 earlier this year but lost the World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh and now stand a chance to record their second ODI series win of 2022.

Ahead of the second ODI in Manchester, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for ENG vs SA 2nd ODI

Jos Buttler: wicketkeeper batsman, England

Jos Buttler, who was in the form of his life until a month ago, has not been able to perform since being appointed England’s full-time captain. Buttler finished IPL 2022 as its leading run scorer and then broke a few records against the Netherlands in the ODI series, which includes a 70 ball 162 not-out. However, his form dipped from there on with a 60 against India in the third ODI being an exception. Buttler brings with him the experience of 155 ODIs, from which he has 4226 runs at an average of almost 41.

Rassie van der Dussen – batsman, South Africa

Rassie van der Dussen was South Africa’s best performer in the opening ODI. He scored 134 runs off 117 balls including 10 boundaries. In 36 ODIs since making his debut in 2019, Dussen has scored 1499 runs at an excellent average of almost 75. This includes three centuries.

Moeen Ali – all-rounder, England

One of the best all-rounders in white ball cricket, Moeen Ali is another good pick for your MPL team. He wasn’t able to contribute much in the opening ODI but has an experience of 119 ODIs from which he has a batting average of 25.53 along with 92 wickets.

Joe Root – batsman, England

Joe Root was England’s top performer in the first ODI. He scored a knock of 86 and will be now looking for another big knock in the second ODI. In all, Root has 6206 runs in 156 ODIs at an excellent average of almost 51.

Aiden Markram – batsman, South Africa

Aiden Markram not only scored 77 runs with the bat in the first ODI, but also picked up two wickets with the ball. In 39 ODIs, he has a batting average of 28.70 and 11 wickets.
