ENG vs IND 2nd ODI Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: England vs India, 2nd ODI (ENG vs IND)

Date: July 14, Thursday, 5:30 PM IST

Venue: Lords Cricket Ground, London, England

After losing the fifth and rescheduled Test match, India beat England in the T20I series and then started the ODI series too on a winning note. The visitors completely outplayed England in the first ODI, winning the game by 10 wickets.

Batting first, England were bundled out for 110 runs in the 25th over. Seven of their batsman scored in single digits, while the top score of 30 came from captain Jos Buttler. Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc as he picked up six wickets for just 19 runs in 7.2 overs. Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna contributed with one. This was the sixth time in ODI history when Indian pacers picked all ten wickets in a match.

In the second innings, India chased the target without losing any wickets. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 75 off 58 while Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten 31 off 54. The openers reached the landmark of 5000 runs as opening partners, which is the fourth most runs by an opening pair in ODI history.

The 110 is now England’s lowest ODI total against India. Their previous lowest was 125, which came in Jaipur in 2006.

India is currently ranked fourth in the ICC ODI team rankings, while England are on the second spot. Ahead of the first second in London, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for ENG vs IND, 2nd ODI

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for ENG vs IND 2nd ODI

Jos Buttler: wicketkeeper batsman, England

Much like the entire batting lineup, England’s new full-time captain Jos Buttler was not able to do much damage with the bat in the series opener. He, however, top scored with a knock of 30. Buttler has been in great form over the last few months – he finished IPL 2022 as its leading run scorer and then broke a few records against the Netherlands in the ODI series, which includes a 70 ball 162 not-out. Buttler brings with him the experience of 152 ODIs, from which he has 4150 runs at an average of almost 42.

Rohit Sharma: batsman, India

Rohit Sharma joined the team for the limited-overs series after missing the fifth Test due to COVID-19. Upon return, the skipper scored an unbeaten 76 off 58 laced with seven boundaries and five maximums. Rohit is regarded as one of the best players in ODIs – he has played 231 matches in the format, scoring nearly 9300 runs at an average of more than 48. This includes 29 centuries.

Jasprit Bumrah: bowler, India

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah stole the limelight in the first ODI. Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief with six wickets and an economy rate of less than 3 runs per over. His 6-19 is the fourth-best spell in ODIs in England, the third-best for India in ODIs and his personal best figure too.

Ben Stokes – all-rounder, England

Ben Stokes made his return to the ODI side after a year but was not able to get going. The Test skipper was dismissed for a golden duck and went wicketless with the ball. However, Stokes is one of the best players in the current squad and a must-have in your MPL team. In all, Stokes has 74 wickets and 2871 runs in 102 ODIs.

Suryakumar Yadav – batsman, India

Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely sensational in the third T20I against England. He scored a knock of 117 off just 55 deliveries at a strike rate of more than 200. He did not get a chance to bat in the opening ODI and will be looking to make the most of the opportunity in the second game. He boasts of excellent numbers in ODIs an average of 53.40 in seven games.
