Rejuvenated Kerala Blasters look to get back to winning ways against struggling FC Goa

Kerala Blasters have found their feet in the recent few matches in this edition of the Indian Super League. The Kochi based outfit started slowly with a 4-2 loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. But they have not tasted defeat since and have amassed seven points from their last three matches.

The Blasters are coming to this game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC. So head coach Ivan Vukomanovic will hope that his team will bounce back against a struggling FC Goa team. The Tuskers have been sensational in attack especially the combination of Alvaro Vazquez, Adrian Luna and Sahal Abdul Samad have worked like a charm. In defence Indian youngster Ruivah Hormipan has been a standout performer for the Blasters, especially in Enes Sipovic’s absence due to injury.

The main thing for Vukomanovic is that he has found his best starting eleven and the understanding and cooperation between the players have reflected on their performances.

On the other hand, it has been a tumultuous season for FC Goa especially with Juan Ferrando’s midseason departure. It is always difficult to manage a club from midseason but FC Goa team management has vested their trust in Derrick Pereira. The veteran tactician will hope to bring some joy in the Gaurs camp and steer them to safer shores this season.

While the clash against the Blasters will be very tricky, FC Goa have the talent and the personnel to bag all three points. FC Goa started the season in the most horrible fashion with three consecutive defeats. However, they clawed their way back with wins against SC East Bengal and Bengaluru FC. But they failed to maintain consistency through the season. So they are winless in the last three matches. In fact, they are coming to this game on the back of a 2-1 loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. It was a far one sided game than what the scoreline suggests and it is a very concerning fact for Pereira and the FC Goa team management.

Team News

Kerala Blasters have a settled starting lineup and Vukomanovic will not tinker it much in this game aswell. Apart from Rahul KP, the Serbian tactician has more or less everyone available for selection. There is good news in the camp as some reports suggest that their custodian Albino Gomes is fit to play the match against the Gaurs. However, Prabhsukhan Gill has done well to deputize him. So it will be interesting to see who gets the nod from the coach for this game.

Alvaro Vazquez will look to lead the lines for the Blasters. The Spaniard will be well supported by Jorge Diaz. Sahal Abdul Samad and Adrian Luna will man the flanks whereas Lalthathanga Khawlhring and Jeakson Singh will look to control the midfield. Meanwhile, Hormipan will look to continue his exceptional form.

However on the contrary FC Goa have a lot of issues in terms of availability. Players like Brandon Fernandes, Glan Martins and Airam Cabrera will miss the clash due to injuries. Whereas Edu Bedia has trained for this game but final judgement on his health will be taken right before the game.

Jorge Ortiz needs to take up more responsibility in the goalscoring department. Whereas the likes of Alberto Noguera, Muhammed Nemil Devendra Murgaonkar will have to do a lot more to help the Gaurs secure results in these tough fixtures.

Predicted Lineups

Kerala Blasters Predicted XI: Prabhsukhan Gill; Harmanjot Singh, Ruivah Hormipan, Marco Leskovic, Jessel Carneiro, Sahal Samad, Lalthathanga Khawlhring, Adrian Luna, Alvaro Vazquez, Jorge Pereyra Diaz.

Top Picks

Adrian Luna, Midfielder, Kerala Blasters

The Uruguayan midfielder has been the creative nucleus of this Kerala Blasters side. Luna’s form in the last few matches have been the game-changing factor for the Blasters, especially the way he progresses the ball, finds teammates in tight spaces and even opens up defences with his immaculate passing. Overall Luna’s presence in the midfield has even helped the likes of Sahal and Vazquez come back to form in recent matches. He is surely the fan favourite and the driving force in this Blasters outfit.

Sahal Abdul Samad, Midfielder, Kerala Blasters

Criticised for not living up to his expectations in the past, Sahal Abdul Samad has changed the narrative this season. Kerala Blasters’ fn favourite is on a scoring spree. He has scored in the last three matches and is in great form. His combination with Vazquez and Luna has propelled the Kochi based outfit this season. He will hope that he can add more goals to his tally and help the Tuskers secure more wins.

Captain and Vice Captaincy Picks

Taking into consideration their current form, Kerala Blasters are way ahead of FC Goa. The Balsters have defeated Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC and we expect them to win against the struggling Gaurs. Hence we have picked Adrian Luna as the captain, the Uruguayan is mostly involved in chance creation and goals and has played a pivotal role for Vukomanovic. Similarly, Sahal Samad’s form this season has been a beacon of hope for the Yellow Army. The midfielder is in great touch and will look to add more to his tally. Therefore he is our vice-captain pick.
