FCB vs SGF, Bundesliga 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions, & Fantasy Team

Bayern Munich will face off against SpVgg Greuther Fürth at the Allianz Arena on Sunday, 20th Feb afternoon in this Bundesliga match.

To put a bad week behind them, Bayern Munich will aim to extend their advantage at the top of the Bundesliga table when they host Greuther Furth at the Allianz Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the hosts endured a crushing setback last weekend before faltering in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but the visitors continued their impressive run of form at the bottom of the league by picking up another victory on Saturday.

In the weeks leading up to the weekend, Bayern had reached a point in their season where they could relax a little bit. The Bavarians had extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points over Borussia Dortmund, ahead of what appeared to be a straightforward Champions League tie against Red Bull Salzburg in midweek.

However, fast forward a week and the defending champions have been undone twice during a rare snag in what has otherwise been a magnificent season.

Everything seemed to be going according to plan when Robert Lewandowski scored a surprise goal after nine minutes against newly promoted VfL Bochum on Saturday, but Bayern Munich found themselves down 4-1 at halftime.

Julian Nagelsmann’s team was completely taken by surprise, and even though Lewandowski scored his second goal in the last 15 minutes, he was unable to prevent the leaders from collapsing to a shocking 4-2 loss.

Dortmund’s win against Mainz a day later ensured that the Bundesliga championship race was once again in play, even though Nagelsmann’s side had seemed to have ended their campaign on a handful of occasions earlier in the season.

It would have been reasonable to expect the Bavarians to respond similarly when they travelled to Austria for their Champions League knockout tie on Wednesday. However, the giants put in yet another sluggish performance and were fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw in the end thanks to Kingsley Coman’s late equaliser.

Even though the hosts will be expected to comfortably progress from the tie when they return to the Allianz Arena in a couple of weeks, Nagelsmann will be expecting his team to significantly improve their performance levels in the coming weeks, beginning on Sunday when they return to Bundesliga action in the hopes of avoiding another major upset.

The strain will be lifted off the shoulders of visitors Greuther when they arrive at the Allianz Arena, even though they are still fighting for survival at the bottom of the league.

Following their promotion from the 2. Bundesliga after the previous season, will be rewarded for their efforts with unforgettable travels to some of Germany’s top clubs, including a trip to the home of the Bundesliga champions at the weekend in particular.

Despite being enormous underdogs going into the match, Cloverleaves boss, Stefan Leitl, will be hoping his team can put in yet another spirited effort to take advantage of any possible Bayern miscues.

The visitors seemed to be doomed to a bleak future at the bottom of the Bundesliga table as recently as December, and although their chances of surviving remain remote, the underdogs have at least managed to reclaim some dignity in recent weeks after a dismal start to the season.

The fact that Greuther only picked up a single point from their first 14 Bundesliga games of the season seemed to indicate that they were on their way to breaking every undesirable record in top-flight history. However, since then, Leitl’s side has lost just twice in their next eight Bundesliga games, both of which came on tough away trips to Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

A 2-1 victory against Hertha Berlin last weekend was the latest in a string of good performances for the team, with captain Branimir Hrgota scoring both goals to move them within nine points of safety.

With just one point earned away from home in the first half of the season and an arduous journey to Bayern Munich on Sunday, they are unlikely to add to their total by the conclusion of the game.

Team News:

Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer have both been ruled out with injuries, while Jamal Musiala tested positive for COVID-19 but has finished his self-isolation and might be in a position for a comeback to the team soon. Alphonso Davies is unable to play owing to heart-related complications.

Aside from Gideon Jung and Marius Funk, Robin Kehr and Jessic Ngankam are all unable to play because of injury.

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:

Ulreich; Pavard, Upamecano, Sule, Hernandez; Kimmich, Tolisso; Sabitzer, Muller, Sane; Lewandowski

Greuther Furth possible starting lineup:

Linde; Meyerhofer, Griesbeck, Viergever, Itter; Seguin, Christiansen, Tillman; Dudziak; Hrgota, Leweling

Bayern Munich hopes to avoid going three games without a victory for the first time since 2018, and they are looking forward to the arrival of Greuther Furth on Saturday.

Although the freshly promoted side has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, they are still considered the favourites to return to the second level as soon as possible. The disparity in quality between them and their opponents is brutally obvious, and we believe Julian Nagelsmann’s club will steamroll their way back to victory.
