FRK vs FCB, Bundesliga 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions, & Fantasy Team

In their match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, 26th February, Bayern Munich will be trying to extend their advantage atop the Bundesliga table.

Last weekend, the visitors had to come from behind to escape a major shock, whilst the hosts suffered their second straight loss in what has been a disappointing start to the New Year.

After losing 2-0 at home to a struggling Wolfsburg team on matchday 22, Frankfurt was unable to mount a convincing comeback when they travelled to a rival European contender in the shape of FC Koln last weekend.

Oliver Glasner’s side was limited to very little in terms of offensive opportunities owing to the great organisation of their opponents, but the former Wolfsburg manager will be worried if his typically prolific club fails to score in consecutive games.

When Die Adler’s form during the 2022 season is taken into consideration, the poor performance came as no surprise, with Frankfurt having already lost four and won just one of their first six games of the new year.

Six wins from Frankfurt’s final seven games of the season had propelled the club up the table and into serious contention for a place in the Champions League come May, but a deterioration in form in recent weeks has left the Bundesliga club in tenth place ahead of Saturday’s match.

Glasner’s team is currently six points away from securing a European position of any type, and with a relatively modest nine-point buffer between themselves and Augsburg in the relegation playoff zone, Frankfurt will be forced to look over their shoulders if this downward trend continues for much longer.

As a result, the visit of Bayern Munich on Saturday could not have come at a worse moment for the visitors. However, Frankfurt will take heart from the fact that they were the team who stopped the leaders’ all but flawless start to the season back in October when Die Adler won 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich bounced back from a terrible previous week in which they suffered a stunning loss at the hands of VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga, and they may have been fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg in their Champions League round-of-16 meeting.

After 45 minutes of action at the Allianz Arena, it seemed as if Julian Nagelsmann’s team would be on the receiving end of yet another shock result, with the Bavarians trailing bottom-of-the-table Greuther Furth by 1-0 at the break.

However, Robert Lewandowski levelled the score within seconds of the restart, and when Bayern took the lead just after the hour mark via an own goal, there was little question that they would be back on top.

Due to Borussia Dortmund’s victory later in the day, the champions’ advantage at the top of the Bundesliga table remained at six points at the end of matchday twenty-three.

Even though they have extended their lead to nine points on two different occasions in recent months, Nagelsmann will be disappointed that his team has failed to all but secure a 10th straight Bundesliga crown in recent weeks, but the leaders remain firmly in control of the race for victory.

Because they are playing one day earlier than Dortmund this week, Bayern Munich will have the potential to put more pressure on their rivals if they win at the Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday. If they win, Bayern will have a nine-point edge over Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

After suffering a shocking 3-0 loss in the reverse game back in October, in addition to a few slip-ups in recent weeks, the visitors must be on their alert against falling into complacency.
