Date: September 1, 2022 – 3 PM AST / September 2 – 12:30 AM IST
Venue: Warner Park, Basseterre
The inaugural edition of the women’s Caribbean Premier League consists of three group matches between three teams, followed by the final. The second match of the tournament will witness Trinbago Knight Riders women take on Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park in Basseterre on September 1st.
Guyana Amazon Warriors women, led by Stefanie Taylor, finished last in the recently concluded 6ixty league. They had an equal number of wins as the other two teams Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals. But their negative net run-rate meant they could not reach the final, which Royals won eventually.
Knight Riders came out on top by just 1 run in the thrilling opening game of the WCPL against Royals. Lee-Ann Kirby scored run-a-ball 30 at the top while Deandra Dottin and Hayley Jensen made crucial 20s as they managed only 114/7.
Kirby then picked 2 for 32 with the ball while the rest of the bowlers chipped in. Chloe Tryon had given them a scare with her 38 off just 26 but TKR women took things deep. Defending 11 off the last over, Dottin held her nerves to take the side to a win despite conceding a six on the third ball.
