Match: Gujarat vs Rajasthan, (GUJ vs RAJ, Qualifier 1)
Date: May 24, 2022 – 7:30 PM IST
Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Gujarat and Rajasthan will face off each other in Qualifier 1 of the Indian T20 League 2022 which will be played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
Gujarat, led by Hardik Pandya, topped the points table after the league stage. They won 10 of their 14 games to collect 20 points, the most by any team this season. Rajasthan won nine of their 14 games to finish second with 18 points. This is the first time since 2011 when the Jaipur based franchise has finished in the top two.
Gujarat won the only game between the two sides in the league phase. Captain Hardik Pandya top scored with an 87 before Yash Dayal and Lockie Ferguson helped defend the target of 192.
After 70 league games that were played across Mumbai and Pune, the action has now shifted to Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The team that wins Qualifier 1 will play the final, while the losing team will play Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator. The final in Ahmedabad will be played between the winner of Qualifier 1 and winner of Qualifier 2.
Ahead of Indian T20 league 2022 qualifier 1, let’s look at the head to head total of both teams, the pitch report, weather update, MPL top picks and more.
GUJ vs RAJ, Qualifier 1, Weather Update & Pitch Report
The Eden Gardens in Kolkata has a batting friendly surface. There will be assistance for the pace bowlers early on while the spinners will come into play as the match progresses. All the three T20I games that were played at this venue against Sri Lanka in November were high scoring. Anything above 180 is a good total here.
In the last five Indian T20 League games played at this venue, the average first innings score is 191 runs. The teams batting second have won 47 of the 78 games played here.
The weather in Kolkata, however, could spoil the party. There is a chance of rain during the game and thus both the captains will be looking to bowl first keeping the DRS in mind.

Although Wriddhiman Saha injured himself in Gujarat’s last league game, he has confirmed his availability for Qualifier 1. He is important to your MPL XI not just because he has done well this season, but because he has a wealth of experience playing at the Eden Gardens, his home ground.
Rashid Khan – Bowler, Gujarat
Rashid Khan has consistently picked up wickets in the last few games. The spinner has nine wickets in his last four outings and will be looking to carry the good form into the playoffs. He can also be a match-winner with the bat and has previously played quite a few impressive cameos down the order.
Sanju Samson – Wicketkeeper batsman, Rajasthan
Sanju Samson has scored 374 runs at an average of 29 and rate of 147 this series so far and will be looking for one big score on a day it will matter the most. Samson can help you score points in your fantasy playing 11 with his keeping too – he has the most dismissals this season so far (14).
Jos Buttler – wicketkeeper batsman, Rajasthan
It is risky to pick Jos Buttler in your MPL team given his recent performances. But despite the recent failures, he is still the highest run-scorer this season with 629 runs in 14 innings. The big match player will hope to return to form and take his team to the final.
