Reigning champions start campaign against revengeseeking Goa

Reigning champions Mumbai City FC will start their ISL campaign as they take on FC Goa who played their last ISL clash against the same opponent. Goa crashed out of the preceding edition of the tournament to Mumbai in the tie-breaker as Glan Martins missed out on his spot-kick while Rowlin Borges smashed his to take his team to the finale.

Mumbai City FC emerged as the champions of the fray in the last edition of the tournament after late drama saw ATK Mohun Bagan sink in the dying embers. But, they lost their star custodian, Amrinder Singh, and illustrious midfielder, Hugo Boumous, to ATKMB the following summer.

FC Goa had a good start to the season as they clinched the Durand Cup and will bank on the good blend of youth and experience to bail them out in the season opener.

FC Goa has a talented pool of Indian youngsters who have been fairing pretty well in the ISL roster and in the international circuit too, wherein Mumbai will rely on their heavy artillery up front led by Ahmed Jahouh in the centre.

Players top picks:

Igor Angulo, striker, Mumbai City FC

Igor Angulo is a sublime striker who is very well accustomed to the net and knows how to finish. He has so far been a part of 19 games that has seen him find the back of the net a staggering 13 times. Though he is still to string an assist in the premier version of India’s footballing contests, he is a towering presence who can wreak havoc at the glimpse of the net.

Edu Bedia, midfielder, FC Goa

Edu Bedia is currently the captain of FC Goa and is an electrifying midfielder, to say the least. He is capable of scoring at will and creates impeccable through-balls for the striking forces to feed upon. He has so far played 64 matches in ISL, scored 8 goals and strung 11 assists. He has also been a part of this contest for an overwhelming 4641 minutes.

Captain and vice-captaincy options:

Given the blistering aggression that Igor Angulo brings to the table, this will be coupled with a desire to pen a statement as he will be taking the mantle against his former team.
