HFC vs ATKMB, ISL 2021/22 SF1 Leg 1: MPL Preview, Predictions & Fantasy Team

Saturday’s first leg of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 semi-final 2 will be played at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa, between Hyderabad FC and ATK Mohun Bagan (March 12).

Hyderabad FC, who finished second in the league stage with 11 victories, 4 losses, and 5 draws for a total of 38 points from 20 matches, progressed to reach the final four stages for the first time.

Despite a tight 1-0 loss to league leaders Jamshedpur FC on the last matchday of the league stage, ATK Mohun Bagan finished in third place with 10 wins, 3 loses, and 7 draws from 20 matches, missing out on the League Shield winners’ trophy. Hyderabad and ATK Mohun Bagan will face off in the second leg of the two-legged semifinal 2 on March 20, while table-toppers and League Shield winners Jamshedpur FC will face off against fourth-placed Kerala Blasters in the other two-legged semifinal on March 20.

As for the first leg of the semi-final 2, the two teams have already played twice this season, with the first meeting concluding in a 2-2 draw and the rematch ending 2-1 in favour of ATK Mohun Bagan in the opposite game.

In all, the two teams have faced four times in the Indian Super League thus far, with ATK Mohun Bagan winning once and the other three games ending in ties. However, the Hyderabad FC club has seemed to be revitalised of late, as seen by their effort to finish in the top four positions. Hyderabad FC is currently the top-scoring team in the Indian Super League (ISL) season 8 with 43 goals, largely due to the efforts of the league’s leading scorer, Bartholomew Ogbeche, who has scored 17 goals in 17 matches so far and looks set to take home the golden boot at the conclusion of the tournament.

As a result, HFC has the second strongest defence in the league this season, having conceded only 23 goals in 20 games. A large part of their success can be attributed to the central defensive duo of Chinglensana Singh and Juanan. Despite the fact that ATK Mohun Bagan has often depended on Roy Krishna, Hugo Boumous, and David Williams, the international trio has only produced 14 goals between them this season, with the majority of the Mariners’ goals coming from Indian players. Liston Colaco has scored 8 goals in 20 games, while Manvir Singh has scored 6 goals in the same amount of games. In their most recent encounter in the Indian Super League against Hyderabad, the pair also scored. ATK MB has scored a total of 37 goals this season, which places them third in the league in terms of goal scoring.

Apart from that, ATK Mohun Bagan has the fourth-strongest defence in the league this season, behind only the other three semifinalists, having conceded 26 goals in 20 matches thus far. Sandesh Jhingan and Tiri form the nucleus of the defence’s central defensive structure.

The second leg was won by Bagan thanks to goals from Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh. David Williams had a goal and an assist. They have a lot of resources in front of them, thanks to the efforts of Joni Kauko, the resurrected Roy Krishna, and Hugo Boumous. Those high-profile players, however, were unable to deliver when it meant the most, as was their defence, which was undone by JFC as a result of a significant gap between the high-profile central defensive combination of Tiri and Sandesh Jhingan.

TEAM NEWS:

Hyderabad FC News: Bartholomew Ogbeche, the team’s leading scorer and captain Joao Victor should both be available. These players coming back could really improve their chances in this semi-final tie.

ATK Mohun Bagan: David Williams made his comeback from injury as a late substitution against Jamshedpur and might take over for Roy Krishna in the starting lineup. Hugo Boumous is still questionable due to an injury, while Michael Soosairaj and Abhilash Paul have been ruled out.

HFC vs ATKMB possible starting lineup

Hyderabad FC (4-2-3-1):

Laxmikant Kattimani; Nim Dorjee Tamang, Chinglensana Singh, Juanan, Akash Mishra; Joao Victor, Souvik Chakrabarti; Mohammad Yasir, Joel Chianese, Nikhil Poojary; Victor Ogbeche.

Amrinder Singh; Pritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan, Tiri, Subhasish Bose; Lenny Rodrigues, Carl McHugh; Manvir Singh, Hugo Boumous/David Williams, Liston Colaco; Roy Krishna.

PREDICTIONS:

Both sides will be aiming to maintain a clean sheet going into next week’s second leg match, which will decide the outcome of the tie after two legs. Furthermore, since this is a semi-final encounter, previous form and head-to-head record are no longer relevant considerations. In this match, though, we anticipate seeing goals since the top-scoring team, Hyderabad FC will be playing. Despite the fact that Hyderabad FC is heavy favourites to win the match, ATK Mohun Bagan’s previous experience in reaching the final stages of competition may give them the advantage or at the very least a draw.
