ENG-W vs IND-W, Women’s World Cup 2022: Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: England women vs India women, Women’s World Cup 2022 (ENG-W vs IND-W)

Date: March 16, Wednesday, 6:30 AM IST

Venue: Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand

England Women will take on India Women in match 15 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on March 16. England, winners of the previous edition of the World Cup in 2017, have lost all of their first three games and another loss will mean a return home.

England’s most recent loss came at the hands of South Africa on Monday. Half-centuries from Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones propelled the Heather Knight-led side to a total of 235 in 50 overs. Defending the average target, the bowlers, especially Anya Shrubsole and Sophie Ecclestone, put up a good fight, before England eventually lost the game in the last over.

India, on the other hand, come into this game after a thumping 155-run victory over the West Indies. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur scored a century each to take India to 317 in 50 overs. Later, Sneh Rana’s three wickets and two from Meghna Singh helped bundle out the Windies for just 162. India now have a net run rate of 1.333, and are currently third in the points table after Australia and South Africa. A win over England will confirm their berth in the semi-finals.

Ahead of match 15, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for ENG-W vs IND-W

Smriti Mandhana – Batter, India

MPL price – 10 credits

India opening batter Smriti Mandhana, the team’s leading run-scorer in 2021 and the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2021, has carried her fine form into the World Cup. Mandhana scored a knock of 123 against the West Indies, hitting 13 boundaries and two maximums. Earlier in the game against Pakistan, the southpaw scored a half-century, before which she scored another fifty in one of the two warm-up matches. A match-winner for India on several occasions, Mandhana will be looking to take India to the semi-finals with yet another marathon innings.

Harmanpreet Kaur – Batter, India

MPL price – 9.5 credits

In the ODI series India played against New Zealand ahead of the World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur’s poor form came under the scanner. She managed only 33 runs in three innings, before finding form in the last ODI in which she scored a half-century. But Kaur has been in sensational form in the World Cup – she scored 104 runs in the warm-up against South Africa, 71 against New Zealand and 109 against the West Indies. The knock of 109 was laced with 10 fours and two sixes. A destructive batsman, Kaur brings with her the experience of playing 114 ODIs, which will be useful to India in the next few important games.

Sneh Rana – All-rounder, India

MPL price – 8.5 credits

All-rounder Sneh Rana is another good pick for your MPL XI team. The bowling all-rounder scored an unbeaten 53 in the game against Pakistan, and she has also picked up five wickets in three matches while being very economical. Rana has the fifth-most wickets in the tournament currently, and the fourth-best economy rate (3.44.) She has been well assisted by Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who has picked up seven wickets at an economy rate of 3.36.

Tammy Beaumont – Batter, England

MPL price – 9.5 credits

Opening batter Tammy Beaumont is England’s highest run-scorer this World Cup. She scored 74 against Australia, 46 against the West Indies and 62 against South Africa. The right-hander averages around 44 in her ODI career of 88 games and will be very crucial to England’s chances in the next game.

Nat Sciver – All-rounder, England

MPL price – 10 credits

Nat Sciver has only 18 runs combined in her last two outings this World Cup, but she scored an authoritative unbeaten 109 against Australia in England’s tournament opener. With the ball, she has four wickets in three games. Sciver, who has a batting average of nearly 40 while also picking up 59 wickets, is due for a big knock, and will be looking to deliver in the do-or-die game.
