Match: India vs New Zealand, (IND vs NZ, 2nd ODI)

Date: January 21, 2023 – 1:30 PM IST

Venue: Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur

India and New Zealand produced a thrilling encounter in the series opener at Hyderabad. With the series scoreline reading 1-0 in India’s favour, the second ODI will take place at Raipur International Stadium on Saturday, January 21st.

The men in blue managed to hold on to a 12-run victory in the first ODI, which was a high-scoring affair. Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got the hosts off to a great start yet again. They added 60 runs in 12 overs before the captain holed out for 34.

In-form Virat Kohli was cleaned up with a ripping delivery by Mitch Santner but Gill continued to play his natural game. Other batters got in and got out but Shubman looked in pristine touch. Gill went on to become fifth Indian and the youngest player to smash a double century in fifty-over cricket. Gill belted nine sixes and 19 fours in his knock of 209 off 149 to power India to 349/8.

Chasing 350, the visitors could build any partnerships early on and lost their top six for 131 in 29 overs. Just when it looked the game was done and dusted, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner fought back. The pair added 162 runs for the seventh wicket in just 17 overs to bring them back in the game.

Santner was dismissed for 57 off 45 but Bracewell went on to fight till the end. With 13 needed off the last five balls with only one wicket in hand, he was trapped LBW. Bracewell’s incredible knock of 140 off 78 included 12 fours and 10 maximums.
