Match: India vs South Africa, (IND vs SA, 1st ODI)
Date: October 6, 2022 – 1:30 PM IST
Venue: Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
Following the three-match T20I series as a part of the T20 World Cup preparation, India and South will compete in an ODI series which rather comes at an odd stage. The two teams will lock horns in the first of three ODIs at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday, October 6th.
The hosts claimed the T20I series by 2-1, where the last two matches were quite the runfests. The ODI series will be a part of the ICC CWC Super League. India have named a second string side with the main players resting ahead of the T20 World Cup down under. South Africa, on the other hand, will be playing a full-strength side.
The Proteas last played in the fifty-over format in July on the tour of the UK. They were leveled at 1-1 heading into the series decider, which was called off due to rain interruption. Earlier this year, Temba Bavuma’s men swept India by 3-0 at home.
India have rested their key players from the fifty-over format throughout this year but that hasn’t had any impact on their performance. Their most recent assignment was the tour of Zimbabwe, where they won the series by 3-0 in August. Earlier, India faced West Indies on the Caribbean tour, winning all three ODIs.
Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for IND vs SA, 1st ODI
Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow should provide plenty of movement and bounce for the seamers. Only eight ODI matches have been played here with the average first innings score reading 215. Seven of these eight games have been won by the team batting second.
The weather doesn’t look promising as there’s a possibility of thunderstorms in Lucknow on Thursday. There’s a 93% chance of rain predicted for the morning and around 65% for the afternoon.
