Date: October 2, 2022 – 7 PM IST
Venue: Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati
India made light work of South Africa in the first T20I to go 1-0 in the three-match series. The Proteas will be looking to make a strong comeback when they take on the hosts in the second T20I at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2nd.
The series opener saw India defeat the visitors by eight wickets in Thiruvananthapuram. On a track with movement and variable bounce, South Africa’s batting unit suffered a huge collapse. Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar were outstanding with the new ball as they sent half the South African side back in the hut for just 9 runs in 2.3 overs.
Arshdeep removed Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw and David Miller while Chahar bagged Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs. Aiden Markram looked good in his 25-run knock before he was trapped by Harshal Patel. Wayne Parnell made 24 off 37 while Keshav Maharaj top scored with 41 off 35 to take the side past 100.
Chasing a small target of 107, India lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for just 17 in 6.1 overs. KL Rahul struggled to find any rhythm but he hung in. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, batted like it’s a different pitch altogether and smashed 50* off 33 balls. Rahul remained unbeaten on 51 off 56 to complete the victory in 16.4 overs.
