IND vs SL, 1st ODI – Fantasy Preview and Top Picks

Match: India vs Sri Lanka, (IND vs SL, 1st ODI)

Date: January 10, 2023 – 1:30 PM IST

Venue: Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati

Following a high scoring and mega entertaining T20I series that ended in 2-1 to the hosts, India and Sri Lanka will now compete in a three-match ODI series. The first One Day International will take place at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, January 10th.

Hardik Pandya led India in the shorter format, where India edged the visitors in the first T20I by just 2 runs before falling 16 runs short in the second game. The men in blue then obliterated the Lankan lions by 91 runs in the third match to clinch the series.

Rohit Sharma returns for this series to take charge of the side, along with Virat Kohli. The superstar trio of these two and Jasprit Bumrah has played only one ODI together in nearly three years. Bumrah was initially picked but has been pulled out at the last moment as the management takes cautious approach. That means the fans will have to wait.

India have lost their last two ODI assignments. In November, they lost by 1-0 against New Zealand after two matches were washed out. Later, they were stunned in Bangladesh as the Bangla tigers clinched the series by 2-1.

Sri Lanka last played ODIs in November, hosting Afghanistan. They lost the opening match by 60 runs while the second game ended in no result due to rain. Sri Lanka then chased down 314 in the third ODI with four wickets to spare to draw the series.

Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for IND vs SL, 1st ODI, BBL 2022

Best Captaincy Picks for the IND vs SL match

Virat Kohli: Batter, India

Virat Kohli has been in decent touch in the last few months and ODIs is his best format. The Indian maestro has amassed 12471 runs in fifty-over cricket at an average of 57 with 44 centuries and 64 half centuries. Kohli made 113* off 91 in his previous ODI innings and remains a top captaincy pick.

Rohit Sharma: Batter, India

Rohit Sharma went without scoring an international hundred in 2022 but you expect quality players to bounce back. He has a stellar record in ODI cricket, having scored 9454 runs at an average of 49 with 29 hundreds and 46 fifties. On a good batting wicket, Rohit is a top captaincy pick.

Kusal Mendis: Wicket-keeper Batter, Sri Lanka

Kusal Mendis has been in fantastic form in recent months. He scored a fifty in the second T20I and looked good in the other two. Mendis has scored 362 runs in his last 10 innings at an average of 52. He has two hundreds and 20 fifties in his overall ODI career.

Top Differential Picks

Mohammed Shami: Bowler, India

Mohammed Shami has a pretty good record in the fifty-over format. He has taken 152 wickets in 82 matches at an economy of 5.60, including nine four-wicket hauls and a five-for. Picked by just 25% of fantasy teams, Shami can be a good differential.

Charith Asalanka: Batter, Sri Lanka

The left hand batter has been in good touch in recent times. He has done well in ODI cricket, scoring 752 runs from 18 innings at 47 average with six fifties and a hundred. Asalanka is only picked by 14% of the MPL teams and offers good value.
