IND vs SL 2nd Test Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test (IND vs SL)

Date: March 12, Saturday, 2:00 PM IST

Venue: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, India

India and Sri Lanka will lock horns in the second game of the two-match Test series on March 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Unlike the first Test, the second one will be played with the pink ball under the lights. India have played two pink-ball Tests at home, winning both. This will be the third day and night Test to be played in India, and the first-ever between India and Sri Lanka.

In the first Test of the on-going series, which was also Rohit Sharma’s first Test as the skipper, India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs inside three days. India have not lost a Test series at home since their 2-1 defeat to England in 2012. After that, they have won 14 Test series at home on a trot, and a depleted Sri Lankan side will be India’s best bet to extend the unbeaten streak to 15. The hosts, on the other hand, have never won a Test match in India.

To add to the woes of the Lankans, they have several injury concerns ahead of the pink-ball match. Pathum Nissanka, who scored an unbeaten 61 in the first innings in Mohali, has been ruled out of the second Test with a back injury. Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara are also unavailable due to injuries.

Ahead of the second Test, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for IND vs SL

The surface at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is largely batting friendly, but the pacers also love bowling here. We’ve seen several pace bowlers win their side Test matches at this venue. Of the 23 Tests played here, nine have been won by the team batting first. The average first innings score here is 362. The highest Test total posted in Chinnaswamy is 626-10, while the lowest is 103-10.

As for the weather update, the temperature is likely to range from 24 to 30 degree Celsius. The forecast is good for the opening day but rain might interrupt the game on the third and fifth day.

India team news and predicted XI

Team news: Axar Patel is fit to play the second Test, and he is likely to be included in playing XI over Mohammed Siraj. It can be noted that the last time when India played a pink-ball Test, Patel wreaked havoc with the ball, picking 11 wickets.

Predicted XI:

Sri Lanka team news and predicted XI

Team news: As mentioned earlier, Sri Lanka are depleted due to injuries to Pathum Nissanka, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara. The likes of Angelo Mathews,  Dimuth Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva will have to produce good knocks if the hosts want to stand a chance in the game.

Predicted XI:  Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Suranga Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando, Lasith Embuldeniya, Dushmantha Chameera

Head to head record

India and Sri Lanka have so far played 45 Tests, of which India have won 21 while Sri Lanka bagged seven wins. 16 games ended in a draw. The hosts have never won a game of Test cricket in India.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for IND vs SL

Axar Patel – All-rounder, India

MPL price – 8.5 credits

The Indian team management has released Kuldeep Yadav from the squad and added Axar Patel, who has recovered from an injury. Given how the spinner performed with the pink ball the last time, he is likely to be included in the playing XI. Patel was the match-winner in India’s last pink-ball Test where he picked up 11 wickets against England in Ahmedabad. The left-arm bowler has had a stellar start to his Test career, picking 36 wickets in five games and also scoring 179 runs with the bat, which includes a half-century.

Niroshan Dickwella – Wicketkeeper batter, Sri Lanka

MPL price – 8.5 credits

Niroshan Dickwella scored an unbeaten 51 in the second innings of the Mohali Test and will be expected to be among runs in the second game as well. The southpaw has played 46 Tests for Sri Lanka, from which he has 2496 runs at an average of 32.84. Dickwella was in fine form in List A cricket and in the Lanka Premier League last month, and will be looking to replicate those exploits in the pink-ball game.

Ravindra Jadeja – All-rounder, India

MPL price – 10 credits

Ravindra Jadeja was named the Player of the Match in the first Test in Mohali. He picked up five wickets in the first innings and another four in the second, while also scoring an unbeaten 175 with the bat. Jadeja has served as one of India’s best all-rounders, and brings with him the experience of playing 58 Tests, averaging 36.46. With the ball, he has 241 wickets in the format.

Dimuth Karunaratne – Batter, Sri Lanka

MPL price – 9.5 credits

Opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne got good starts in both the innings of the first Test, but was unable to convert them to long innings. He scored 28 in the first innings and 27 in the second, and will be looking to convert his starts into a substantial knock in Bangalore under the floodlights. In absence of Nissanka, who has been ruled out of the second Test due to injury, Karunaratne will have a big role to play.

Virat Kohli – Batter, India

MPL price – 10 credits

Former India captain Virat Kohli looked good for a big score in Mohali, but got out for 45 in the first innings. Kohli, whose first international century came against Sri Lanka, will be looking to get his long-awaited 71st century against the same opponents. He has an excellent average against the Lankans – 74.93 in 10 matches and notably, his last century two years ago came in a pink-ball Test.
