India Women vs Pakistan Women, 5th Match:

The 5th match of the women’s T20 competition in Commonwealth Games 2022 will witness arch rivals India and Pakistan square off in a Group A fixture. The two teams will clash at the Edgbaston on Sunday.

India are coming into this clash having lost their opening match against Australia on Friday. India were in a commanding position against the world champions but could not seize the moment, eventually losing by three wickets.

Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 154/8 on the back of Harmanpreet Kaur’s 34-ball 52 and Shafali Verma’s 48 off 33. Renuka Singh bowled an exceptional new ball spell, reducing Australia to 34/4. However, rest of the bowlers took a beating from Grace Harris (37 off 20) and had no answer to Ashleigh Gardner (52* off 35) as they lost with an over to spare.

Pakistan are also coming off a loss in their first game of the tournament, falling 15 runs short against Barbados. Their bowlers didn’t have any answers to Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight’s fifties, conceding 144/4 in 20 overs. Chasing the target, they were reduced to 49/4 in 11 overs. Nida Dar fought alone with a terrific 50* off 31 but didn’t get any support from the rest.
