Match: India Women vs South Africa Women (IND-W vs SA-W, 2nd ODI)
Date: March 09, 2021
Venue: Ekana International Cricket Stadium – Lucknow, India
The Indian Women’s cricket team did not have the best outing last time out, as they went down to South Africa in the first of the five match series. Sent in to bowl first after South Africa won the toss, the Indians did not get off to the best start, with the openers failing to leave an impact. However, Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship, but their dismissal sparked a collapse as the side could only manage 23 runs in the remaining 13 overs, with the loss of 5 wickets. The middle order has always posed a problem for the Indian side, and the absence of a big hitter lower down the order seems to be an area they should work on ahead of the World Cup.
The Indian bowlers were wayward and lacked sting, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma not finding their groove. The visiting team shared a 169-run stand in their run chase of 178, and will be the favourites yet again.
Weather Update and Pitch Report of IND-W vs SA-W 2nd ODI:
The day will be hot in Lucknow, with the temperatures hovering around the 34 degree Celsius mark. However, it will get cooler in the evening. The humidity will be 46% and the chances of rain is minimum.
Runs were easy to come by in the first game, and it was a good batting wicket. The team that wins the toss will be looking to bat first and make the most of the batting conditions on offer. The spinners did get some help last time out as the match progressed, but it is easy to go for boundaries if the bowler errs in line or length.
IND-W Expected XI and Team News:
The side might play the same XI despite the heavy loss last time out, in order to give adequate chances to their players. Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana opened the innings, but we could see Mithali Raj come up at three so she has maximum deliveries to face. If India are looking to make chances, Mansi Joshi might replace Monica Patel.
Mithali Raj: The skipper of the ODI team, Mithali Raj has played more than 200 ODIs – the first woman player to achieve the feat. She has amassed close to 7000 runs with seven hundred and 53 fifties. She scored a fine fifty in the last game, and will be eager to carry forward her form.
Jhulan Goswami: Like Mithali, Jhulan too has been a veteran for the Indian women’s cricket team. She has 227 wickets to her name, including two in the last match. In the absence of Shikha Pandey, Jhulan will be leading the pace attack.
Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, Punam Raut, Mithali Raj (c), Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Sushma Verma (wk), Jhulan Goswami, Monica Patel/Mansi Joshi, Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad

Match prediction of IND-W vs SA-W 2nd ODI:
Though India Women have a superior head to head record, they have a number of issues to resolve, especially when it comes to their middle order batting and fast bowling. They look rusty in the last game, and Harmanpreet Kaur suggested that the team might need a few more games together to find their rhythm. South Africa, thus, are the favourites.
MPL Fantasy XI:
T Chetty, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Laura Wolvaardt, Deepti Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Sune Luus, Shabnim Ismail, A Khaka, Jhulan Goswami and Nadine de Klerk
Captain and vice-captain selection:
Sune Luus: The skipper of the side bats at number three and is more than handy with the ball as well. She picked up a wicket in the last game, and though she was out for 1 off 9 deliveries, Lulus has plenty of experience and will be itching to play a big knock here.
Harmanpreet Kaur: Playing her 100th ODI in the last game, Harmanpreet Kaur scored a brisk run a ball 40 that had six fours. She is one of the most dangerous batters on her day, and can be more than handy with the ball as well.
