About
The most successful side of the Indian Super League, the Kolkata franchise boasts of as many as three ISL titles in the past seven seasons. Although the merger of Mohun Bagan and ATK to rechristen as ATK Mohun Bagan has induced a fresh start for the franchise in the Indian top tier league, the team remains one of the most celebrated and followed sides in Indian football.
The historic merger in 2020 saw some protests from both sides of supporters who were against the move, but that hasn’t had any effect on Mohun Bagan. The legacy of Mohun Bagan has remained intact while the energetic stature of ATK has added newness to it.

Amrinder Singh also replaced Arindam Bhattacharya in the goal who opted to join their archrivals SC East Bengal on a free transfer in the summer.
They became stronger when Sandesh Jhingan rejoined them in the January transfer period after spending a brief period at HNK Sibenik. Finland international Joni Kauko who was seen donning his country colours in the European Championship also joined the ranks of the Indian Super League franchise.
ATK Mohun Bagan: Interesting ISL stats
ATKMB gaffer Juan Ferrando hasn’t lost a match against Hyderabad FC. He has won one and drawn three matches so far to be one of the most envious sides against Hyderabad FC in the league so far.
Liston Colaco currently tops the chart amongst the Indian players in scoring goals. The Indian international has scored 5 goals and assisted 1 in the proceedings. ATKMB’s biggest win came against Hyderabad FC on 25 October 2019 when they thrashed the Southern giants 5-0.
ATK Mohun Bagan: Rivalries
Regardless of the tournament, they are competing in, the intense rivalry of ATKMB and another Kolkata giants SC East Bengal gave remained intact for decades. Road Ahead for ATKMB
The departure of Antonio Lopez Habas, who guided the franchise to two Indian Super League titles, hogged all the limelight.
However, the club wasted no time in bringing in former FC Goa manager Juan Ferrando who has taken the helm at the club. He has guided them to two wins and a draw in the last three matches. But the Mariners have failed to provide the spark as Ferrando always demands perfection in everyone’s games.
Amidst the supporter’s revolt regarding the merger of the two clubs, ATKMB’s foremost aim will be to seal a playoff berth for the consecutive third time. They haven’t been able to replicate their previous season’s form and it will be a matter of concern for a team like the Mariners. They are currently in the fifth position and with their current form, they have a difficult task to cut out it seems.
With the likes of Roy Krishna and Liston Colaco in their ranks, they have the perfect mixture of youth and experience and it could help them to generate more positive results in near future.
