Bangalore vs Kolkata: Two inconsistent performers

IPL Fantasy Stats: Bangalore vs Kolkata

Introduction

The present and the future of Indian cricket will be in action together when Bangalore takes on Kolkata in the Indian T20 League later this year. While Virat Kohli attracts eyeballs and support anywhere he goes, Shubman Gill is fast emerging as a fan favourite as well. With Kohli having singled Gill out for effusive praise, the young gun will be eager to perform in front of his national skipper in 2021. Gill did not have the most impressive outing in 2020, with his strike rate often coming up for criticism, and he will be eager to get going and stake a claim for a spot in the T20 World Cup that will be held later this year.

Bangalore will be high on confidence when they face Kolkata after getting the better of them on the last three occasions. Overall, the two sides have played each other 26 times in the Indian T20 domestic league, with Kolkata just edging ahead, with 14 wins against Bangalore’s 12.

In the 2020 edition, Bangalore troubled Kolkata in both encounters. In the first game that was held in Sharjah, Bangalore managed a mammoth 194 for 2, led by an AB de Villiers blitzkrieg, in their 20 overs. In reply, Kolkata could only amass 112 for 9, handing Bangalore a huge win. In the reverse fixture, Kolkata could only score 84 for 8 in their 20 overs, which was easily chased down by Bangalore with 6.3 overs and eight wickets to spare.

Top 3 Performers Comparison and Stats

Though Bangalore is not the most consistent of teams, they have managed to trouble Kolkata of late. AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, in particular, have been wreckers in chief, with the latter even scoring a hundred against the side at Eden Gardens in 2019. Kolkata, on the other hand, has not been able to live up to its reputation recently, with below-par showings against Bangalore.

We look at the top three performers from both teams (among active players) in the Indian T20 domestic league, which will help you select the best MPL team when the two teams face off against each other.
