Indian T20 League 2023: DEL vs GUJ, Match 7 – Fantasy Preview and Top Picks

Match: Team Delhi vs Team Gujarat, (DEL vs GUJ, Match 7)

Date: April 4, 2023 – 7:30 PM IST

Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

The match no. 7 of the Indian T20 League 2023 will witness Team Delhi taking on Team Gujarat on April 4th. The two teams will clash at the home of Capitals – Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday evening.

The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective opening match of the season. Gujarat defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets while Delhi suffered a 50-run hammering at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants.

Team Delhi didn’t have a great outing with the ball as they conceded 193/6 on a pitch that looked tricky to bat on. Khaleel Ahmed was the only positive for them, picking 2 for 30 off his four overs.

Chasing the big target, their batting line-up was rattled early by Mark Wood, who bowled at rapid pace. David Warner hung in there but could not score at a faster rate. His 56 off 48 was top slow for the target they were chasing. Wood bagged a five-wicket haul as Delhi could only reach 143/9.

Team Gujarat bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Ruturaj Gaikwad but managed to pull things back at the back end. Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph bagged two wickets each as they restricted the men in yellow to 178.

Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha provided Gujarat an outstanding start. Gill went on to smash 63 runs in just 36 balls before he fell. They had a bit of a hiccup but Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan sealed the game with four balls to spare.

Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for DEL vs GUJ, Match 7

The pitches at Arun Jaitley Stadium are known for assisting spin. However, short boundaries nullify the pitches to an extent, offering plenty of runs as well. The average first innings score from 25 league matches at this venue since 2017 stands at 177.

The weather forecast suggests Delhi should witness clear skies on Tuesday evening. There’s no rain threat with the temperature hovering around 23°C.

Best Captaincy Picks for the DEL vs GUJ match

Shubman Gill: Batter, Team Gujarat

The Indian batter has been in ridiculous touch for the last few months. Shubman Gill had recently blasted a century in a T20I and he has begun this tournament with a 36-ball 63. He had a decent season last year, scoring over 400 runs and is expected to do better this time with the form he’s in.

David Warner: Batter, Team Delhi

One of the greatest T20 batters, David Warner struggled to score quickly in the previous game but registered a fifty. He has an outstanding record in the Indian T20 League, with 5668 runs at an average of 42 and strike rate of 140. Warner is a reliable fantasy option and you can make him captain.

Rashid Khan: Bowler, Team Gujarat

Rashid Khan is the best T20 spinner in the world and contributes with crucial runs with the bat as well. He picked 2 for 26 in the previous game while smashing 10 off three balls. Rashid has 114 wickets in the league at an economy of 6.37. He can be a good C/VC option.

Top Differential Picks

Hardik Pandya: All-rounder, Team Gujarat

Hardik Pandya has been in good form. He missed out in the first game but remains a must pick. With his all-round ability, Hardik could also be a good differential captaincy pick.

Anrich Nortje: Bowler, Team Delhi

Anrich Nortje didn’t play the first game but is expected to be back for this fixture. He could be picked by less percentage of the MPL teams and can be a great differential.
