Date: May 12, 2023 – 7:30 PM IST

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

The match no. 57 of the Indian T20 League 2023 brings you a clash between Team Gujarat and Team Mumbai. It will be Hardik Pandya against Rohit Sharma when the two teams meet at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 12th.

Mumbai are currently in the top four, having won six out of 11 games. They have 12 points to their credit with a net run-rate of -0.255. They are coming off a comprehensive victory over Bangalore by six wickets at home.

Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis went on a rampage but the Mumbai bowlers managed to pull things back. They picked 5 for 68 runs in the last eight overs to restrict the opponents to 199. Ishan Kishan smashed 42 off 21 while Nehal Wadhera scored 52 off 34. It was Suryakumar Yadav who enthralled the fans with a stunning 83 off 35 as Mumbai chased down the target in 16.3 overs.

Gujarat sit at the top of the table quite comfortably with 16 points after 11 matches. They have won eight matches and have a terrific net run-rate of 0.951. Most recently, they hammered Team Lucknow by 56 runs at home.

The Gujarat openers were magnificent on the day as they went on to post a huge total of 227/2 on the board. Wriddhiman Saha smashed 81 in 43 deliveries while Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 94 off 51. Their bowlers took a tap early on but bounced back well to hold Lucknow off. Mohit Sharma starred with the ball, picking 4 for 29 in four overs.

These two teams had faced each other earlier this season, where Gujarat registered a dominant 55-run victory. Mumbai, who need to win two out of the remaining three games, will be hoping to avenge the loss.

Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for MUM vs GUJ, Match 57

Wankhede Stadium is one of the best venues for batting and it has lived up to it this season. New ball seamers do get some assistance here. The average first innings score in the league stands at 171 since 2017. This season the number reads 193, with four of the five games being won by the chasing side.

The match should happen without any interruption as Mumbai is expensive to witness clear and humid weather on Friday evening. The temperature will hover around 30 degrees.

Team Mumbai – Expected XI and Team News

Team Mumbai do not have Jofra Archer available for the rest rest of the season and was replaced by Chris Jordan. Jordan slotted into the playing XI straight away. Jason Behrendorff and Kumar Kartikeya were brought back in the previous game and will keep their spots. Suryakumar Yadav didn’t look 100% fit in the previous game but could play as an impact player.

Probable XI – Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Chris Jordan, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff

Best Captaincy Picks for the MUM vs GUJ match

Hardik Pandya: All-rounder, Team Gujarat

Hardik Pandya has been batting at number three and bowling in every game, making him a great captaincy candidate. He has scored 277 runs in 10 innings this season at an average of 35 and strike rate of 131. He has picked three wickets only but the all-round value can’t be ignored.

Suryakumar Yadav: Batter, Team Mumbai

Suryakumar Yadav had a bad start to the season but has returned to his best. He’s likely to play as a batter, with impact player rule and if he does play, he’s a top C/VC option. SKY has scored 376 runs in the season at an incredible strike rate of 186. He has hammered four fifties in the last six innings.

Shubman Gill: Batter, Team Gujarat

Shubman Gill is coming off an incredible knock of 94 not-out in 51 balls against Lucknow. Gill should enjoy batting at Wankhede and could feast on Mumbai’s poor bowling attack. He has scored 469 runs this season at an average of 47 while striking at 143. Gill has registered four fifties in the tournament.

Top Differential Picks

Tim David: Batter, Team Mumbai

Considering Gujarat’s strong bowling attack, Tim David could get more game time in the middle. He has scored 179 runs this season at an average of 30 and strike rate of 166. David is picked by only 17% of the MPL teams and could be a good differential.

Noor Ahmad: Bowler, Team Gujarat

The Afghanistan spinner has been impressive in the ongoing tournament. Noor Ahmad has picked 11 wickets from just seven games at an economy of 6.94. He’s selected by only 25% of the fantasy teams and offers great differential value.
