RCB v RR: When you get a wicket off the first ball your confidence is high, says Yuzvendra Chahal

Third win of the season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they dominate the Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) and script an 8-wicket triumph in the 15th match of IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi. The victory wouldn’t have been possible if not for ace leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and the clever deliveries that got him the wickets of Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, and Mahipal Lomror.

The 29-year-old ended the day with figures of 4-0-24-3 and was rightly awarded as the ‘Player of the Match’.

In the post-match presentation, Chahal spoke about the ground dimensions and how it has been helping him in varying his line and lengths, and those early wickets in his over boost his confidence to alter the pace.

“I am enjoying this a lot as the grounds are slightly bigger. We can give more flight here and I am just varying my pace and my lines. When you get a wicket off your first ball your confidence is high and I know they won’t take a chance against me then I vary my pace,” said Chahal.

Sanju Samson’s wicket was very special: Yuzvendra Chahal

The Haryana-born mentioned that the wicket of Sanju Samson at the start of the contest was very special as he has been in terrific form in the tournament. He added that though he misses playing at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, the grounds in UAE have been suiting the needs of spinners owing the large boundary size which offers them the flight the delivery a bit more.

“I think Sanju’s wicket (was special) as he is in good form, also I was able to hold on to the caught and bowl. Playing here is good for the spinners as the boundaries are big and we can flight it more.

I love to play at the Chinnaswamy, I miss playing there but here you can bowl your googlies and wide deliveries,” he added.

Other than Chahal, spinner Washington Sundar (0/20) bowled well while Adam Zampa conceded 27 runs in three overs of play. Isuru Udana (2/41) and Navdeep Saini (1/37) were a bit expensive but managed to curtail the opposition.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are now sitting atop the points tally with 3 wins in 4 matches, an NRR of -.0.954, and 6 points under their belt.

The Kohli-led side will face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on October 5 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, in Dubai.
