The stage is set for the IPL 2021 mini auction scheduled to take place in Chennai on February 18. Overall, 1194 cricketers had registered their names for the upcoming auction out of which only 292 players have been shortlisted by the franchises to fill the remaining tally of 61 spots.
There hasn’t been any official confirmation on the dates regarding the commencement of IPL 2021 but one can expect the tournament to begin likely from the second week of April.
A total of 10 players will be up for grabs at the highest base price in the mini auction – Rs 2 crore, that include Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Liam Plunkett, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali, Jason Roy and Glenn Maxwell. And an exact tally of 11 and 12 players have been grouped in the price slabs of Rs 1 crore and Rs 1.5 crore respectively.
The eight franchises had shared the details regarding the list of retained and released players ahead of the auction. Post that, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders emerged as the teams with the lowest purse available (Rs 10.75 crore) for the auction, while Punjab Kings XI (formerly Kings XI Punjab) had the maximum purse amount (Rs 53.2 crore) under their belt.
