IRE vs SA 2nd T20I Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Ireland vs South Africa, 2ndt T20I (IRE vs SA)

Date: August 5, Friday, 10:30 PM IST

Venue: County Ground, Bristol

Ireland are playing South Africa in a two-match T20I series being held in England. The series will help both the teams prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will be played later this year in Australia.

South Africa won the opening T20I by 21 runs. Batting first, they put up a strong total of 211 runs on the board after Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram scored half centuries. Quinton de Kock, meanwhile, was unable to recover from his lean patch, scoring yet another paltry knock of seven runs.

Chasing 212 runs to win, Ireland put up a good fight before falling short of the target by 21 runs. Some of their experienced players like Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie failed to deliver, but a knock of 78 by Lorcan Tucker and 43 runs by George Dockrell took Ireland closer to the target and helped them avoid what could have been a bigger-margin loss.

Ireland have not been at their best in the recent past, having come into this series after being whitewashed by New Zealand in both the ODI and T20I series. They will now want to avoid another series defeat by winning the second T20I against South Africa.

Ahead of the second T20I, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for IRE vs SA, 1st ODI

Curtis Campher – all-rounder, Ireland

Curtis Campher was dismissed for a golden duck in the first T20I, and was also unable to pick any wickets. But he is still a good pick for your MPL team given his recent form. Campher picked up five wickets in three games at the recently concluded Cricket Ireland Inter Provincial Trophy, and also contributed with the bat. In all, the all-rounder has played 16 T20I internationals for Ireland, from which he has a batting average of 35.46 along with 15 wickets.

Harry Tector– batsman, Ireland

Harry Tector is another good pick for your fantasy cricket team. He was among the top performers at the Cricket Ireland Inter Provincial Trophy, scoring an unbeaten 58 in the second game and an unbeaten 28 in the third game. Earlier in the ODIs against New Zealand, Tector smashed two centuries in three games. Tector has played 38 T20Is, and has scored 679 runs at a strike rate of over 130.

Reeza Hendricks – batter, South Africa

Reeza Hendricks was South Africa’s best performer in the opening T20I. He top scored with a knock of 74 and will be looking to carry the good form into the next game. Earlier, he was also impressive in the series against England, with scores of 57, 53 and 70 in three innings.

Tabraiz Shamsi – bowler, South Africa

Tabraiz Shamsi picked up two wickets in the first T20I, continuing with his fine form. Against England in the final T20I, the spinner had picked up five wickets. The Chinaman bowler overall has 68 wickets in 55 T20Is.

Aiden Markram – batsman, South Africa

Aiden Markram’s half century from the first T20I has made him one of the sought after players for the fantasy team of the second T20I. In all, he has played 22 T20 internationals, scoring 695 runs at an average of almost 44 and strike rate of 150.  Those are excellent numbers and make Markram indispensable to your fantasy cricket team.
