IRE vs SA 1st T20I Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Ireland vs South Africa, 1stt T20I (IRE vs SA)

Date: August 3, Wednesday, 10:30 PM IST

Venue: County Ground, Bristol

After hosting India and New Zealand, Ireland will now play South Africa in a two-match T20I series in England. Playing against full members a bit more frequently has largely helped Ireland improve their game and also qualify for the T20 World Cup 2022. The County Ground in Bristol will host both T20Is of the series, with the first match scheduled to take place on August 3.

Ireland come into this series after recently being whitewashed by New Zealand in both the ODI and T20I series, and will now try to make amends for it in the series against South Africa. The Proteas, meanwhile, recently faced England in a limited-overs series. While the ODI series was tied 1-1, South Africa won the T20I series by a 2-1 margin. Quinton de Kock, who has been out of form for a while now, will be looking to make the most of this series to find his mojo. Kagiso Rabada, meanwhile, has been ruled out of both the games due to an ankle injury. Ahead of the T20I World Cup later this year, both Ireland and South Africa will be looking to finalise their squads and this series will offer them the chance to do the same.

Ahead of the first T20I, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for IRE vs SA, 1st T20I

Curtis Campher – all-rounder, Ireland

Curtis Campher has put up some impressive performances in his recent outings. Most recently at the Cricket Ireland Inter Provincial Trophy, Campher picked up five wickets in three games and also contributed with the bat. Earlier in the series against New Zealand too he made a few valuable contributions with the bat. In all, the all-rounder has played 15 T20 internationals for Ireland, from which he has a batting average of 21.00 along with 16 wickets.

Harry Tector– batter, Ireland

Harry Tector was among the top performers at the Cricket Ireland Inter Provincial Trophy. He scored an unbeaten 58 in the second game and an unbeaten 28 in the third game. Earlier in the ODIs against New Zealand, Tector smashed two centuries in three games. Tector has played 37 T20Is since making his debut in 2019, and has scored 673 runs at an average and strike rate of 24.92 and 131.18.

Reeza Hendricks – batter, South Africa

Reeza Hendricks was South Africa’s best performer in the series against England. The right-hander finished with scores of 57, 53 and 70 in the three innings he played and was subsequently also named the Player of the Series. Another good series for Hendricks, and he could find himself in South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

Quinton de Kock – wicketkeeper batter, South Africa

Despite underperforming in the recent past, de Kock is a must-have in your fantasy team. He will be looking to get runs against a low ranked Irish team and get back to form.

Tabraiz Shamsi – bowler, South Africa

Tabraiz Shamsi picked up a five-wicket haul in the final T20I against England and will be looking to replicate that against South Africa. The Chinaman bowler is one of the best bowlers in the game’s shortest format.
