Match: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals (KKR vs DC)
Date:October 24, 2020
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Delhi Capitals, with 14 points from 10 games, are one of the strong teams of IPL 2020, and will be looking for a win here to confirm their playoffs berth. Though the side lost their last game against Kings XI Punjab, they have a lot of positives from their campaign thus far, which will give them immense confidence. Shikhar Dhawan is in rich form with back to back hundreds, while Kagiso Rabada is the Purple Cap holder with 21 scalps.
KKR, on the other hand, have lost 3 of their last 5 games, and are yet to play to their potential. They could just manage 84 against RCB in their last match, while the other losses were by bg margins as well. They are also affected by the injury to match-winner Andre Russell, and will go into the game under pressure. They have 10 points currently, and need to win 3 of their last 4 games to qualify (as their NRR will not see them through).
The weather in Abu Dhabi will be warm and dry with temperatures hovering around the 38-degree mark. It is a day game, which will further make it uncomfortable for the players.
The wicket is getting slow with each passing day, which makes batting second tough. As it is a day game, there will not be dew in the second half of the game, which should further prompt the skipper winning the toss to bat first.
The teams that will win the toss might opt to bat first as the wicket is getting slower with each passing day. Batting first will also be a choice as the teams would not want to field under the hot 2pm sun.
KKR Expected XI and Team News
There is no update on the fitness of both Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. If fit, the duo could be slotted into the XI for Tom Banton and Pat Cummins. Nitish Rana could also be dropped for Siddhesh Lad.
Eoin Morgan: The KKR skipper is in good touch of late, and has played a couple of handy cameos. However, he has found little support. Morgan would hope to play a defining hand in his side’s game here.
Lockie Ferguson: The Kiwi speedster has 6 wickets in 2 games, and will be the key yet again, especially with Pat Cummins not in the best form.
Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana/Siddhesh Lad, Eoin Morgan(c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Sunil Narine, Andre Russell Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy
DC Expected XI and Team News
Delhi Capitals might look to replace Prithvi Shaw, who has had a terrible run of late. However, they are short of back-up options, and DC might give the young gun another go.
Shikhar Dhawan: The Indian has four successive 50+ scores, with two back to back hundreds. He has upped his strike rate as well, and has been giving his team the desired start. With Shaw not in the best rhythm, the onus of giving his team good starts rests on Dhawan.
Kagiso Rabada: The South African has 21 wickets thus far, and has picked up at least a wicket in his last 24 IPL matches. He has been lethal with the new ball, and his yorkers at the death are tough to face.
Prithvi Shaw , Shikhar Dhawan , Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer(c), Marcus Stoinis Alex Carey (wk), Axar Patel, Ravi Ashwin, Tushar Deshpande, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje
Head to head record of KKR vs DC:
The two teams have met each other in 26 IPL games, with KKR winning 13 and DC taking 12 wins against KKR. However, Delhi have defeated Kolkata in the last four games, including the one earlier this IPL.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for KKR vs DC:
WK: Rishabh Pant has blown hot and cold in IPL 2020, but is a dangerous player. He has got starts and will be eager to play a good hand.
Batsmen: Eoin Morgan has been anchoring the innings to perfection after the fall of quick wickets. Rahul Tripathi had played two good knocks in his first two IPL 2020 games, but has gone quiet of late. He will want to fire in a must-win match. Shikhar Dhawan is in wonderful form and comes into the game on the back of two consecutive tons. Shreyas Iyer had smashed an unbeaten 88 in 38 balls when the two sides had last met, while Shimron Hetmyer is a dangerous batter lower down the order.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis has been in good form, and has contributed in both departments, while Axar Patel has been economical in the middle overs.
Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada is a must-pick. He has picked up 21 wickets thus far, and has tasted considerable success against KKR in the past, which should give him confidence. Varun Chakravarthy has been leading the spin attack while Lockie Ferguson has picked up 6 wickets in just 2 games.
Captain and VC: Shreyas Iyer and Kagiso Rabada
Match Prediction for KKR vs DC:
Though Delhi Capitals have 14 points, they have a number of issues to solve. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have all blown hot and cold, which was a reason for their defeat in the last game. KKR, on the other hand, are yet to play to their full potential. They have made a number of confusing changes, but if the management can get their combination right, they might get across the line.
Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to win.
