Liverpool are already through, while even a point will be great for Porto
Having missed out on both Premier League and UEFA Champions League last season, Liverpool looks determined not to return empty-handed this season. They have had a great Premier League campaign, but their journey so far in the Champions League this season has been much smoother.
The Reds from Merseyside started with a 3-2 win against AC Milan, and then went on to thrash Porto by a 5-1 margin. In their last two matches against reigning Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, Jurgen Klopp’s boys have won by margins of 3-2 and 2-0.
As for Porto, not many would have expected them to be in the round of 16 race, as the group comprises of renowned teams like AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, but the Portuguese outfit has done a commendable job thus far.
They fought hard for a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid in their first match, and though Liverpool got the better of them quite easily, Sergio Conceicao’s men have picked up 4 points from their last two games. They got a 1-0 win over AC Milan and a 1-1 draw against the same team in their last clash.

Jurgen Klopp has a long list of absentees for this clash. Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino is out with a hamstring injury, while the English duo of Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez will also miss this game. Diogo Jota might also not feature in a game against a team from his nation, as he is recovering from a knee issue.
Scottish left-back Andrew Robertson continues his recovery from a hamstring problem and in his absence, Kostas Tsimikas looks all set to retain his place at the left flank. Naby Keita and James Milner are the two other absentees.
Porto, however, are very lucky in this regard. Sergio Conceicao does not have a long list of injury concerns and will be playing a full-strength team against the mighty Reds. He is likely to opt for a straight 4-4-2 formation, but could also match Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3.

LIV vs POR Top Picks
Mohamed Salah: Forward, Liverpool
There are not many better goal-scorers than Mohamed Salah in the world currently. He has been absolutely lethal, having scored 16 goals in as many appearances and has also given 6 assists. Five of his goals came in the Champions League.
Salah has scored twice against Porto and Atletico Madrid, while against AC Milan, he netted one goal. In the Premier League, he has scored in nine of his 12 appearances. Only Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United have managed to keep him quiet.
Takumi Minamino: Midfielder, Liverpool
Given that some attackers are nursing injuries, Takumi Mikamino looks all play as a winger in this game for Liverpool. The Japan international has mostly made substitute appearances but has done well whenever he has been called upon by the German manager.
Minamino has scored 4 goals in 7 matches and has also given one assist. Three of those goals came in the EFL Cup – two against Norwich City and one against Preston North End. His only goal in the Premier League came against Arsenal.
Captain & Vice-Captain Selection
Given the form Mohamed Salah is in right now, it will be too big of a risk not to pick him as captain, as the Egyptian King is scoring in almost every single game. As for vice-captaincy, we have gone with Takumi Minamino, who can have an advanced role in the absence of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.
