LU vs MUN, EPL 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions & Fantasy Team

Leeds United will face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday 20th February at Elland Road.

When Manchester United goes to Elland Road on Sunday to take on Leeds United, they will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in the Premier League.

Heading into the upcoming round of matches, Manchester United is now four points ahead of West Ham United in the Premier League standings, while Leeds is in fifteenth position, six points clear of the relegation zone.

As a result of their five victories, eight draws, and ten defeats in 23 Premier League games this season, Leeds have collected 23 points, placing them in 15th place overall and six points clear of the relegation zone.

Leeds United was excellent in their first season back at this level, finishing in ninth place, but there is no doubt that they have found it tougher this season, and they will be one of the teams that will be looking over their shoulders, especially with Everton and Newcastle United showing signs of improvement.

After winning back-to-back league games against Burnley and West Ham last month, Marcelo Bielsa’s team has picked up only one point from the last nine available, drew with Aston Villa on the back of a home defeat to Newcastle and an away loss to Everton.

In the Premier League, Leeds has three straight matches against Manchester United (at Old Trafford), Liverpool (at Anfield), and Tottenham Hotspur (at White Hart Lane). The Whites will be desperate to get one over on United after losing 5-1 in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in August, but the points were shared in a goalless draw at Elland Road last season.

The Whites have struggled at home this season, picking up just 13 points from 11 games, which is the fourth-worst record in the division. They have also won just one of their last four league games at Elland Road, losing 1-0 to Newcastle United on January 22 in front of their fans in their most recent match.

For their part, Manchester United came away from their 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford. The result lifted the Red Devils back over West Ham United into fourth place in the Premier League rankings.

However, despite reports of unrest in the camp, interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has insisted that there is a positive atmosphere in the dressing room. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire, who will remain as club captain despite recent speculation, have taken to social media to deny that there are problems.

Middlesbrough knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup in the first round of the competition earlier this month. However, the Red Devils still have much to play for this season, as they battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League and travel to Atletico Madrid for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie next week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired as Manchester United’s head coach after a 4-1 defeat at Watford on November 20. The Red Devils have gone unbeaten in their last six Premier League games, winning three of their last five. They have not lost away from home in the English top-flight since that defeat on November 20.

The 20-time English champions will be acutely aware of the importance of picking up another victory here, not only because they are battling West Ham for fourth place, but also because Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Tottenham Hotspur are all very much in the mix at this crucial stage of the season.

Team News:

Leeds United’s Junior Firpo has returned to training, but versatile midfielder Stuart Dallas is poised to miss out after hobbling off during the team’s loss to Everton on Saturday.

Raphael Varane, who was absent from the victory against Brighton, has returned to training with Manchester United, which has given the club a boost. Nemanja Matic has also returned to training. Edinson Cavani, on the other hand, is expected to be left out.

Leeds United possible starting lineup:

Meslier; Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Firpo; Forshaw, Koch; Harrison, Rodrigo, Raphinha; James

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fernandes, McTominay, Pogba; Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho

Manchester United seems to have a strategy and a system in place under the leadership of Ralf Rangnick. It is just a matter of time until they gain a great deal more confidence in front of goal. This may be the kind of game that promotes that transformation. Leeds United have a reputation for being a bad defensive team.

Although Manchester United has been squandering its resources, it’s impossible to envision Leeds United gaining anything out of this game. So, we expect a Manchester United win, which is something Ralf Ragnick will be focused on too.
